The new Facebook “Timeline” profile isn’t publicly available for “a few weeks” but thanks to a rad PR student from Utah State University (Hi, Travis!) I was able to get onboard early.
AND I AM GLAD I DID.
It’s so….PRETTY.

It’s this awesome blog-meets-digital-scrapbook-ish layout that is just WAY more appealing than the old school version.
So…wanna know how I did it?
Now remember that this is ME you are talking to.
The I-LOVE-IT-SO-MUCH-AND-YET-REMAIN-SO-FANTASTICALLY-SUCKTASTIC-AT-ALL-THINGS-TECHNICAL-GIRL.
The girl who deleted her entire blog when she was trying to change it from the Blogger Minima Black template.
The girl who darn near deleted her OTHER blog when she upgraded to a new WordPress version.
The girl who tried to write italics in code and ends up shutting down the power grid of San Francisco and randomly flushing George Dubya’s toilet at “The Ranch.”
The girl who somehow makes a living on the Interwebs despite all of the above.
(I KNOW, RIGHT?!)
But this was a snap.
It took me about 3 minutes. (I already have a verified account, so if you don’t it might take a bit more time for you, but it’s still easy peasy if you follow along with the video.)

Sorry LL, no offense to your content, but the layout really looks like myspace profiles (with the exception of the gigantic main picture).
And I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually allow background under the mistaken idea of “it’s what people want”
I’ve been slowly extricating myself from social networks after FB went BSC. No amount of layout design will lure me back into updating my status there.
It’s the main photo that snagged me in, I’m afraid. I’ve always loathed the layout of Facebook. It seemed so…Meh.
And dude…what am I supposed to do without your wit on Facebook?!

I just changed and I like it! I love the cover photo at the top and being able to easily go back and see old stuff too. I also like that the photos are bigger and easier to see on the wall.
Me, too! I admit that is my favorite part of it, though. The double columns I find kinda annoying…
Add me to those who are getting annoyed with all the changes. This totally looks reminiscent of myspace. I’m about ready to bail. So many people were coming up in my newsfeed last week when the most recent changes hit (particularly the stalkish mini newsfeed) that I felt like FB was actually trying to get everyone ticked and leave for Google+. One of the reasons I loved FB so much in the beginning (aside from the fact that it was just for college students ha) was its simplicity. It WASN’T the awful, glittery, jumbled, can’t-even-read-it myspace.
But props to you. It IS a great picture and does look good, but it’s still too busy for my tastes.
P.S. I chuckled when I saw the ads. Oh, friends, use the Firefox add-on and get rid of the ads!!! Though that looks like IE…dunno if there’s one for it…
I still can’t see the myspace thing, but maybe the myspace pages I looked at were just much more horrifying than the rest. HEH!
And, I only use Chrome. IE is of the devil.
And I don’t mind ads. They help me make my living and turn around is fair play. ;)
THAT said…facebook needs to STOOOOOOP now. Too many changes. I just happen to be ok with this one. ;)
I saw pretty bad myspace pages. Backgrounds so busy you couldn’t see text kind of thing PLUS gifs and falling glitter from the mouse PLUS music PLUS whatever. LOL, yes IE is of the devil. I’ve just never seen Chrome in action. I still see most blog ads (which is totally fine) — it’s the annoying ones that get taken care of. Annoying me isn’t going to win my business, so why bother?
Too bad FB isn’t going to listen to the masses.
Oh, yes. I am so anti-glitter badges it’s ridiculous. I LOVE Chrome. I hated it at first but now I am a die hard fine. I never willingly use anything else.
Oh BOY! Yet more ways to make FB even more confusing! Why not just stick a random number generator on it so that each time you log into it everything is always in a different place! What do they do, lock their design teams in a room with no access to a toilet for 48 hours or until they come up with some way to FUBAR it even more?
Sigh..

Okay, so I got the layout and I agree that it looks SO much like MySpace. Here’s the thing, MySpace sucked because it was SO self-centered. All you did was design and redesign your page and post things about yourself and hope someone would come by and comment. I like facebook because it has more of a community feel, it’s not ALL ABOUT ME (that’s what my blog is for!). I very rarely go to someone else’s profile on fb because I check in frequently enough for most of it to show up on my feed. So anyway, that’s what bugs me. I LOVE the timeline, I just wish it was one feature you could choose to add without going through all the other changes.
