I’ve been a mother since I was 21-years-old.
James was seriously one of THE CUTEST babies I have ever set eyes on.
He was like a little Gerber baby only with huge dimples.
SEE THE CUTENESS?

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like being a mom.
I thought I might like kittens and puppies better than babies.
THEN I had James.
And I fell in love.

I was nuts about being a mom.
I had James 3-weeks before my junior year of college started.
It was tough to be a full time student on a full vocal scholarship and be a wife and mother.
But I did it.
I remember this day. I played hooky and missed a quiz in Music History because I just wanted to see my kid eat lunch by himself.

(I would also like to add that I now wax my eyebrows and no longer dress in head-to-toe denim.)
Jonathan has been the best stepfather to James you can imagine.
And James has an excellent father, who has always been there for him.
We are on good terms and excellent co-parents.
I still maintain that this is the single cutest Kindergarten photo ever taken.
James has always been a…creative soul.
I adore him to bits.
He was the most excellent big brother to Matthew when he was here.
And he is an EXCELLENT big brother to Aaron.

And he’s been the MOST excellent son anyone could ask for.
And now I will try to not freak out that he is the same age I was when I first fell in love and that I have a kid in high school at 36.
(Because damn, I FEEL OLD.)
We are not even going to think about a year from now where he will be allowed to date.
Or drive.
OMG.
DRIVING.
I need a drink.
For reals.
But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
One step at a time, tiger!
I love you forever.
xoxo,
Mom

I think I need a stiff drink, y’all. #old http://ow.ly/6dh6U
Happy Birthday to him! I’m kind of glad that I have a few more years to freak out about the teenage years. He sounds like a great young man.
PS. You and I are the same age. We’re so young. ;)
Hey Rubik!! Happy Birthday to James! Man, I was 15 in 1969 and what a different world we had back then!
Happy Birthday to James AND his Mama! My oldest isn’t too far behind and just started high school, too. Yeah. So I totally get how you’re feeling in the OLD department. I just keep trying to remember to enjoy being the “young mom” now because by the time my youngest (age 4) is in highschool, I will definitely be the “old mom.” Actually, I’m already starting to feel like that when I am around the parents of her preschool friends! Some of them are just babies themselves! OY. Just remember you are one hot, foxy Mom of a highschooler…you know, the one that all the other Moms are jealous of! :)
Happy Birthday James! You are such a great kid and I am glad to know you :) Hope you have an awesome day, and don’t give your Mom too much trouble ;) Give her some, but not TOO much! ha!
Happy Birthday! I know how you feel Loralee, I’m a young thirty-something and my daughter would be 16 this year.
Happy birthday to James! And don’t worry, we were all dressing in head to toe denim at the time!Blahhhh! What were we thinking?
I turned 15 in 1960. Yes, I am THAT old. You, my Dear, are a baby. (and a BABE!!) Happy Birthday, young man. I hope you know how lucky you are. I hope you appreciate how really good your parents are (even though HE is a Republican). But most of all, I hope you understand you only get one shot at all of this – do your best, make the most of life and living – and never, ever SETTLE – always strive for the BEST.
So, you might be a grandmother at 41? (sorry, sorry, something you didn’t want to think about – James and girls)
Oh happy birthday James! You are a great kid with a great mom! Congratulations to you both.
He seems like such a fantastic boy – great job!
Ahh, Happy Birthday [belated] to James, and Birth Day to you! Wow, 21 & in college & married…I can’t imagine. I’m getting married this year at nearly 35. Helps that I’m from a heathen family without premarital sex hangups, LOL.
