I’ve been a mother since I was 21-years-old.
James was seriously one of THE CUTEST babies I have ever set eyes on.
He was like a little Gerber baby only with huge dimples.
SEE THE CUTENESS?

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like being a mom.
I thought I might like kittens and puppies better than babies.
THEN I had James.
And I fell in love.

I was nuts about being a mom.
I had James 3-weeks before my junior year of college started.
It was tough to be a full time student on a full vocal scholarship and be a wife and mother.
But I did it.
I remember this day. I played hooky and missed a quiz in Music History because I just wanted to see my kid eat lunch by himself.

(I would also like to add that I now wax my eyebrows and no longer dress in head-to-toe denim.)
JonathanĀ has been the best stepfather to James you can imagine.

And James has an excellent father, who has always been there for him.
We are on good terms and excellent co-parents.

I still maintain that this is the single cutest Kindergarten photo ever taken.

James has always been a…creative soul.

I adore him to bits.
He was the most excellent big brother to Matthew when he was here.

And he is an EXCELLENT big brother to Aaron.

And he’s been the MOST excellent son anyone could ask for.

And now I will try to not freak out that he is the same age I was when I first fell in love and that I have a kid in high school at 36.
(Because damn, I FEEL OLD.)
We are not even going to think about a year from now where he will be allowed to date.
Or drive.
OMG.
DRIVING.
I need a drink.
For reals.
But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
One step at a time, tiger!

Happy 15th birthday, James.
I love you forever.
xoxo,
Mom
