Is it possible to miss your kid when he’s right in front of you?

I think you all know by now what a fan I am of Butterlump.

(For those that are new and don’t know, Butterlump is not the latest imitation butter spread being pimped out by Fabio. Butterlump is the nickname of my youngest little one who is TWENTY TWO MONTHS OLD NOW.) (GAH!)

I watched this the other day and a profound wave baby hungry washed over me.

The weird thing is, I don’t just want ANY baby.

I want MY baby.

My little pat of butter with big eyes and a little potato head.

I miss him.

(Warning: These 26-seconds may cause your uterus to explode or suddenly be OK when your wife says, “So, what if we had one more?”, so view with caution. Just sayin’…)

I understand that because when I look at my little ones baby pictures or movies I feel the same way – I want that one back. They grow WAY WAY too fast!!

Oh my, that video made me tear up. My son is only 10 mths but I already forgot about those little sounds they make in the very beginning. God. How precious.

I had this huge wave of sadness overcome me in church today when I realized my 14 yr. old is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. Has been for a month now, but I was thinking of how I used to call her “pretty girl” when she was a baby and would rub her little forehead to help her sleep. Before I knew it I was fighting back tears and trying not to let anyone see! Right in the middle of Mass and all…

I’m thinking if I get like this just thinking about it, then I’d better not even think about playing all the videos. Cause I’ll need an entire box of tissues and a whole day to bawl my way through them! Butterlump & his bottle are so adorable…I can totally relate to your wanting those days back.

BTW…I have 3 other, younger kids, and have these moments occassionally with all of them! I think the letter home from school informing us of the meeting for next years FRESHMEN is what kicked the current spazoid moment in! Can’t believe my baby is going to be a high schooler in the fall. Can’t believe I’m OLD enough to have a high schooler in the fall! UGH! ;)

I think it goes with the territory to look at baby pictures or video and exclaim “I miss you being a baby!” Then I tease them and try to hold them like a baby and ask them if they will be my baby forever.
Then I get an email about a meeting for post secondary ed. for my baby girl who is also going to be a freshman next year! Unreal! I like to tell my oldest that I am not old enough to be her mother, because I was too young when I had her, but I can’t say that to this also newly 14 year old (Beth and I have discovered we have a strange amount of things in common!) – as I was nearly 26 when I had her!
I think it is perfectly normal to want to hold onto those sweet moments when they were brand new. I try really hard to memorize every little thing, but of course I forget!
Loralee, I second Sandi’s motion – a new baby should be on your agenda!

I absolutely adore content baby eating grunts. They’re one of my favorite sounds ever!

These are good memories to have in the recesses of our minds so that later on, when you are particularly mad at them about something – there is a chance you will remember this moment and thus – they will get off lightly :)

Oh, wow. My youngest is almost 2 1/2, and I had completely forgotten about those delicious little lamb noises they make while eating. Mmmmmm. Thanks SO much, now I’m have the baby fever.

Gosh I think about these sounds all the time and that video, like the ones I have of Violet just breaks my heart with all the love and the adorable wonderfulness coupled with the fact that time flies by so fast.

    He is precious.

I miss feeding my babies. And my oldest one was 17 on Friday and my youngest will be 16 in June! Where did that time go?

If you missed him when he is right in front of you, take half a step back and swing again, you should be able to connect then.
