My co-worker, Paige, has been completely wonderful to me this week. She’s wonderful all the time, but this week I REALLY needed an ear, and she came through with flying colors. She wrote a post on her blog called “Defending Pollyanna” about how there is nothing wrong with looking for the positive in things.
I totally agree.

While I bluster and whine and moan and can be a big, ole’ COMPLAINER a lot of the time, I am ALSO a believer that you can find good in almost all things and all situations.
And today that is what I want to talk about and hear.
Because there has been one thing that has brought about a million smiles and laughs into the Looney Tunes household this week.
Butterlump has discovered the joy of his life.
Which would be my mother’s hospital bed.
He LOVES it.
He will snuggle up in bed with her and go up and down for as long as we will let him (and without my mom getting motion sick).
And don’t report me to child services for promoting under age labor, but little Butterlump also has a job.
He is a huge fan of velcro. He’ll spend hours fiddling with my dad’s velcro watch band and so we thought we would put this fascination to good use with me mom.
Butterlump LOVES helping my mom put her velcro back brace on before she gets up to walk. Then, when she’s finished, he takes the velcro strap off.
They do this EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. If he’s eating or sleeping or busy, she’ll wait until he’s around. If he comes over and brings it to her, she’ll get up and put it on, just to make him happy.
My mom loves watching him and he adores it.
It’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.
So, there you go.
In a hard week, this ray of sunshine has made all of us so much happier.
So, what is going on in your corner of the world?
What is something that has made you happy this week?
Good news?
Funny story?
Fabulous new purchase of shoes?
What?
Tell me!
I’d love to hear it. :)

Oh, let’s see…
The new site launched BEAUTIFULLY WELL!
I’m running again.
I got hired to write some things.
My son is NOT sick (which can sadly be a big deal).
The husband made me a scrumptious omelet for breakfast. He also made reservations at a romantic restaurant for tomorrow.
My kids are doing their chores and I didn’t ask them.
Chocolate exists and can be had for less than a dollar.
How’s that?
I had a raging, out-of-control crush on you when we were teenagers and never had the nerve to say one word about it. I’ve been kicking myself for years and now that I’ve caught up with you and seen everything you’ve accomplished in your life and the wonderful person you are, I am kicking myself harder.
You are quite a woman, Loralee! You make me proud to have been your friend!
This is so sweet! I would love to get a comment like this. I suppose I’d have to actually have a blog to get one but it’s still true.
Get in line and take a number FFTP, there are lots of us that feel that way about LL! Happy Valentines beautiful!
My head is not going to be able to get through the door, you are all being ridiculously kind.
@Martha-I am not doing anything with the hubs for V-day. It’s my dad’s birthday and we’ll probably try to facilitate him and my mom celebrating. HOPEFULLY I can sneak away for a night this week with him alone, though. Would LOVE. (Also? Good chocolate for less than a buck? WHERE?! SPILL IT, WOMAN!)
The documentary my dad edited is premiering this week! (http://www.rise1961.com/) The story of the doc is sad, but the way they tell the story is incredible. It’s just really nice to be celebrating my dad this week. He deserves it. He works so freaking hard.
OH and for the event I bought a new outfit. HELLO snakeskin pumps and sequined coach bag. (Seriously, I almost slept with the bag cradled in my arms last night. I am a freak. but it is so beautiful)
HOLY COW, Molly! That film looks INCREDIBLE! Is there anyway of seeing it??????????
And, ehem…I want to see photo of the bag, dude! :D
my stree test for my heart came back good after a scare last week. i have been diagnosed with RBBB but i cn live with it. my birthday is at the end of the month and ill be 35, im lookin forward to it, were going midnight bowling for the second yr in a row with all my friends going. so i have several things to be happy about. oh and another thing, its 42 degrees here in minnesota so im totally thrilled about that! your mama looks elated with butterlump. hes doing a great job!
i meant to type stress not stree lmao
Congrats on having a good test and have a happy birthday! xo
A lovely walk down memory lane this week with a dear friend with whom I had fallen out of touch reminded me that time, distance and life may get in the way, but when it comes to true friendship it is everlasting. We now chat daily via email or FB and are catching up very quickly whee we left off.
I am thankful for happenstance situations in our lives (I met my friend’s sister in the hospital a few weeks ago on a certain not-so-great day and got her email address) that we never quite understand.
My heart strings pull when I see Butterlump and your Mom. What a wonderful healing time for her and growing time for him.
XXOO
He is seriously the BEST medicine EVER for her. (I wuv him!)
I’m currently writing my comprehensive exams and the first one went wonderfully! I didn’t think I had in it me, but I did. I now have 42 hours to knock the current one out of the park, and I think I can do it!
You can do anything, Dougie! I HAVE FAITH IN THEE!!!! xoxoxo
for the FIRST NIGHT in FOUR WEEKS i got to go to sleep without having to take a decongestant!!
that’s pretty much all i’ve got. it’s been rough around here too.
but those pictures? with your cutest little boy & mom?
are priceless.
:)
Well Miss Loralee, looks like your littleman Butterlump is doing a good job. I can tell just from the pictures that he makes your mom feel better.
Hang it there lady. Its the little things that get us through the bigger piles of crap we sometimes have to deal with.
You might consider a random squeeze and super kiss for your hubby when ever you get the chance or make the chance. Just to remind the two of you what YOU are about.
He is seriously adorable with her. It cracks us all up to watch. Jon and I were supposed to get away this week but that fell through. Bleck…away time would have been REALLY nice right now.
I had the best dancing party of my life yesterday :) The thing is – I don’t dance! So getting me there, with not only firends, but also some strangers, was already an accomplishment, but the amount of pure FUN that I had was incredible! I totally expected it to be the real pain, I was going there only because my friends asked me and it absolutely surprised me that it was fun after all ;)
ciao,
Amy.
I totally suck at dancing but sometimes it is just so flipping fun I don’t care! xo
Oh my gosh Lor! Your mom looks so beautiful!!! What a sweet lil’ memory Butterlump and your mom are making!
Btw, my daughter is listening to Celestial Soda Pop and for some reason every time I hear it it reminds me of being at your house in high school. THAT makes me happy! :D
OMG! CELESTIAL SODA POP!!!!!!!
I am totally youtubing.
NOW. !
Positive Things:
1) Everyone is well. No sickies.
2) Husband will be bringing in more $ starting this week!! :)
3)I get a raise at the end of the month!! :)
4)Tomorrow is Love Day and I get to smooch my love. ?
5)I had today off… and I nearly cleaned my bedroom.
6)When I DID fall and bust my butt on the ice the other day, I DID NOT break my tailbone. (and I got a 10 on my fall)
7)And I get to comment on one of my total fave blogs. **metal horns to Loralee**
Um… that ? after #4 is supposed to be a heart, lol. I’m not questioning my love. I promise. :D
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (This made me chuckle hard. Love it.)
Butterlump is the cutest :)
Sadly, what made me ridiculously happy this week was fidning my favourite stockings which have been out of stock everywhere. I bought out the store.
And got $10 new shoes. FTW!
Hey, you can never underestimate the happiness good socks can bring. I understand this.
The sun is shining and it is warm outside! I got to take a long Sunday afternoon nap. There is a roast in the oven, potatoes on the stove, and a bag of Double Stuffs waiting to be quadra-stuffed. :) Let the good times roll!
I WENT OUTSIDE WITHOUT A JACKET TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I about died of happy.
Also?
Go, Quadrastuffs!
My house is half way clean! And your mom looks really good – healthy in the photos. You must be a superb nurse.
I do ok. :)
Nothing like a clean house. NOTHING.
Well…I’m at the beach (on business – but STILL!!)
aaaand…..my potty training son came up to me this week sans underwear and announced that his AHEM….is BIG! Oy – boys!
LOVE your blog – you make me laugh and that’s a GOOD THING!
Courtney
You are utterly sweet. And hey, being on the beach is being on the beach…business or no!
I just finished radiation therapy, and I just have a few more infusions of herceptin and another surgery and I’ll be done with treatment for breast cancer.
I love your blog. You’re one of my blogging role models.
Oh, man…I am so sorry about your cancer. BUT, I am SO happy it seems to be going well. MUCH love to you xoxoxoxooxoxo
I have a sponsorship to Blog Her. Ooooo YES! :) We’ll have to make a date if you go too.
AND my Hubs just turned 60 yesterday. He’s looking better every day.
Life over here is just damn happy. So happy.
Shut the door! YAY! We must hang out!
I will defend Pollyanna each and every time. I may not even come close to her positivity and sunshiny outlook, but she is one of my heroes. And don’t take for granted the value of child labor. Just ask my kids!
I love Paige for writing it.
I made a killer dinner.
My kids went to bed without complaining.
My husband and I had a great Date Day yesterday.
IT WAS 50 DEGREES TODAY!
I didn’t wear a coat out today. I seriously about passed out from smiling!
Spring is on the way.
My child is smart and funny.
My husband loves me.
I got over 150 items hung and tagged this week for our local childrens consignment sale.
I have a job that pays well.
My parents are still alive and (somewhat) well.
Althought the repubs are threatening to cut NPR I have faith it won’t happen
That last one made me snort. Heh!
that is really sweet!! What a cute little helper your mom has!
Let’s see….my 6 year old came home from school on the 2nd of feb and we had a conversation like this:
she: mom, guess what I made at school today? Its starts with a “W”
me: um…..
she: its a wart hog, see?! (holding it up)
me: oh, how come you made warthogs today?
she: for Wart hog day (almost as if she was saying, duh mom, don’t you know?!)
me: Do you mean ground hog day?!
she: oh yah, ground hog day!
we laughed over that one for a while! I think next year we’ll be sure to celebrate the Warthog!
HAHAHAHHAHAAHA! That is awesome, Heather.
1. Making Valentine’s with my boys. Daddy was thrilled when he got home.
2. Having one of those belly wrenching laughs with my husband over something silly.
3. Reading your story of your Mom and son and getting to remember MY grandma. She used to let me help butter the turkey at Thanksgiving…I’m not sure if she always did it, but I loved rubbing the butter on the turkey, so she let me do it.
4. Finding out this week that 2 friends are pregnant.
I am envious of the friends being pregnant! I would love to be around babies (but not have another one!)
Sucky:
1. I have a coworker who keeps making snippy comments and seems to think she can do everything better than I can.
2. That’s about it really, but getting needled every 15-20 minutes is extremely wearing.
Lovely:
1. My fiancé got me the version of Hamlet with Patrick Stewart and David Tennent! *fangirl squeeing* It’s Captain Picard and Doctor Who in my favorite Shakespeare play! The trifecta of awesome!
2. I love my engagement/wedding ring! It’s a high high quality synthetic diamond, so I don’t have to worry about someone dying or being brutally injured work or anything else awful over my sparklies. It also has almost a modified bezel setting so the stones will never fall out!
3. My fiancé and I are the goofiest people on earth and we love it.
Ehem: I saw Patrick Stewart on Broadway. (I know.)
And hey, I think diamonds are hugely overpriced, so you go. :)
Well, I’m lookin’ at the weeds from the right side.
(aren’t I just a blight (sic) little ray of sun stroke?)
LOL! You’re the bee’s knees, Joe. :)
Well, let’s see. My brother had a heart attack and DID NOT DIE. This evening, I bought a Hickory Chair, Mark Hampton Collection, Regency Oval Table Desk that retails for around $3000 new for…..wait for it…..wait….$200 bucks!!! The deal included a bitchin’ leather office chair that fits me like a glove. I got to go shooting in the desert for a couple hours yesterday. I haven’t worn long pants in almost a year. I made homemade sausage for the first time and it ROCKS! My mother-in-law has been here visiting for over a week and we thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. Did I mention it was almost 80 degrees here today? I have a huge stockpile of ammunition. The pantry and freezer are full. I got to hold and snuggle my precious newborn niece while watching the Super Bowl. I LOVE NEW BABY SMELL!! I’m going to stop right there. Because that precious newborn baby thing CAN. NOT. BE. TOPPED! It’s been a GREAT week and the pics of Butterlump and Grandma were the absolute perfect way to end it. :-)
OMG! Stephen! I am sorry about your brother! (NOT sorry he didn’t die but sorry that he was sick in the first place!)
Wow…totally rocking deal on the furniture.
And I SO AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE AWESOME OF NEW BABY SMELL THAT I AM ENDING MY COMMENT IN SOLIDARITY!
I’ve really been enjoying goat cheese lately. In soup, on salads, spread on toasted, buttered bread. It’s a tiny happy thing, but it doesn’t make it less happy!
Also, my friend Bonnie (who blogs at zebrabelly.com and is the admin of theshapeofamother.com) has been doing a daily “happy thing” photo since her birthday. Here’s the photoset on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/zebrabelly/sets/72157625971755640/
I love that it was a little lady bug when I clicked on it. :)
Oh! I totally didn’t even think of that! :-) Wow, it was an extra layer of happy for YOU that I didn’t even think about. How awesome.
Took my wife to see the last feather show in Vegas, ‘Jubilee’ – no, we didn’t stay up for the 10:30 topless version, but still to see 40 showgirls strutting around in big feathered headdresses and jewels, and 12 guys in G strings dancing along was a big blast from the past.
And, sun’s out and it’s 69f here (don’t talk about that cold rain coming later in the week) so we had a very nice weekend working out in the sunshine trimming the yard. Thanks for asking
I seriously need to contemplate moving to the desert…
I finally got some time to play with my new toy. It is a Cricut Imagine. I made Valentine’s Day projects for my family and surprises for them! It released a lot of stress to just focus on creating and having fun. It didn’t hurt that they loved their surprises either! I love seeing my girls eyes light up and get all excited about simple things. They are 7 and 4 and I know that won’t last forever so I am soaking it all up now.
I’ve heard varying things about the Cricut…isn’t it hideously expensive with all those cartridges for fonts?
How do you like it?
Your Mom’s pajamas make me happy! I love them and that she’s rockin’ them! ;) Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours!
Those are actually my PJ’s but she loves them and I think they look stylin’ on her.
I was wondering…cause I was thinking I’d totally wear those PJ’s! She’s a beautiful lady with a generous daughter…heck you even share your pajamas with her! LOVE IT! ;D
your son will be her best meds………. they’ll be great for each other, what loving time in your son’s life, it is a GREAT thing she is with you……..bhugs, your a great daughter, Sherry
My happy was that even though my hubs and I are fighting through life, both with our depressive medical issues, me having the doctor diagnose me with the awesomely non fixable fibromyalgia, his job taking it’s toll with 16 hour work days, My inability to be a single parent while he’s working these hours, etc. etc. etc. He stopped, turned me to him, looked me in the eye, and told me “You are doing an amazing job. Thank you. I love you.”
And then my little B’s version of saying “I love you” with her kisses. All day she does it and always knows when I need an extra hug.
