It’s National “Delurking” Day!!

January 14, 2011

It’s that time of the year again, peeps!

“National Delurking Day!”

Which basically means it’s the day to make sure you come out from the shadows and pipe up in the comments!

It’s a fun bloggity tradition for the lurkers and the non-lurkers alike.

Blog commenting has taken quite a beating with the Social Media surge and this is just a day to ‘get back to basics’.

It’s just nice to see everyone and converse and I so hope you’ll talk to me. I’ll be hanging out and conversing with everyone and I’m excited about it.

I’m looking at it like “open mic night”. A day were we can talk about any and everything in the comments…it’s totally up to you and what you feel like chirping in with.

You can say anything!

Talk about anything!

Like what you’ve done this week that you’ve loved! Link to a great post you’ve read or a video you’ve seen on youtube! Or if you’ve read an interesting book! Or tell us what your favorite word is! Or talk about horrible that movie “Dear John” was! Or your favorite guilty pleasure! Or  THANK GOODNESS it’s Girl Scout Cookie season! Or BOO! on the new Zodiac signs (WTF is an “Ophiuchus” ANYWAY?). Or how much you like pie!

You don’t have to be wordy!

(Although, you totally can if you want! I don’t judge.).

PIPE UP EVEN IF IT’S JUST TO SAY HELLO! (And feel free to snag the logo and participate on your blog! Leave me a link and I will certainly come by and say, ‘Howdy”!)

Let me know you’re there.

Please?

:)

OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE*!

*I love using this saying. It fits right in with my weirdo vernacular.

I am a lurker…I read your blog everyday, but never leave comments because I always get nervous that my comment will sound stupid or come across the wrong way. But I do have to say that I love your blog! You are an amazing person. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

    • loralee says:

Oh, NEVER get nervous to pipe up! NEVER! I am the most laid back person ever and I’d love to hear what you have to say! I loved to hear this! YAY! xo

  • Angi says:

Hi, my name is Angi, and I’m dating a lurker. Is there a powder for that?

  • MaryEllen says:

ummmmm, remember me….live down the street….when you are not of running in 60 different directions, call me. I am sure we must need a beverage from Tesoro’s

  • Mary Helen says:

I’m not a total lurker — I’ve commented a few times, but I’m far from regular. I love your blog. You were one the people who inspired me to start my own this fall. It’s really new and I’m still getting the hang of it, but I comment from you would ROCK. I’d better get to posting! http://wiremonkey.wordpress.com

  • Stephen says:

The Babe tells me I am a serial de-lurker. :-)

    • loralee says:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! Well, you already know how I feel about you and “the great bloggity moment of ’10!” (It remains one of my all-time best blog moments ever!)

  • Serial Mommy says:

I didn’t know you homeschooled. Huh. There is no new zodiac. CNN pointed out that most people in the Western Hemisphere follow the tropical zodiac, which means nothing has changed. I’ve been saying that since yesterday. Never fear, you are what you were.

  • NYCPatty says:

    Happy Delurking Day!
After many clicks back I think I found the source of the cool Delurking graphic! So I used it and linked back! Great blog I will be back to read more! :)

  • Hillary says:

    I’m a mom too!

  • Carol Malak says:

I have been a “lurker” for two years now and I love your blog. I went back as far as I could to read all the ones that came before. You are an AMAZING woman to say the very least. You have friended me on facebook and I occasionaly comment, i.e., poking, but mostly just reading what you write. It gives me hope! Hope you are feeling better.

  • Tara R. says:

Officially delurking. I stop by often, but read more than comment.

  • Brad says:

BOOBS. Yeah, that was me, had to do it.

  • Carol says:

Hi Loralee! I am a definite lurker. I have been reading your blog ever since I met you at dinner when Sugar was in SLC. You amazed me then and you continue to amaze me. I love your writing and love reading your blog.:-)

  • bonuela says:

my favorite word is “burbuja” it is the spanish word for bubbles.

this week i’ve been reading my favorite musician’s installments of his top 10 best and worst of 2010, and loving him all the more for it. http://tinyurl.com/4s6ybug

never saw dear john. but i’m sure i would have hated it.

and finally, i can’t drink diet coke. caffeine and aspartame are my kryptonite.

    off to re-lurk

    • loralee says:

“the feeling that a piece of each of us is missing as so many of our friends and family are serving our country far away from home”

I loved this comment from the post you linked to. It is very true. Also? “burbuja” has got to be one of the raddest words, ever. xo

  • Delora says:

De-lurking. Though I don’t lurk on twitter, I do comment there.

I just wanted to say that Butterlump pics make me so, so happy.

  • my favourite word is superfluous.

Which is kinda what this comment is.

Totally stealing this, I haven’t done a delurker day in years and it might bring out the tens of people that read from behind the shadows.

    Love you sweet cheeks.

  • Shelbey says:

Hi, I read all the time but never comment! You make me laugh all the time, thanks! :)

  • Christina says:

But lurking is what I do best!
You’ve been on my Google reader for over a year. Guess it’s time I said hi. And thanks for all the entries where I should have posted comments but didn’t!

  • Desiree says:

Delurking newer reader :-) You tell such a great story, it always keeps me coming back!

    • loralee says:

It’s funny that you should say that. I’m getting ready to speak on a panel at a blogging conference and it’s called “I’m a blogger not a writer!”. I see myself as a storyteller not a writer, so I loved this comment!

  • Sheryl says:

Delurking reader here. I really enjoy your blog. I live a continent away, in Tierra del Fuego, at the southernmost tip of South America and despite this, I relate to almost everything you write about!

  • i hate to weigh in with something less that cheery-but this week has been hard. up and down really, but right now its hard. my heart hurts, i am confused, and generally unsure about what to do. someone suggested P.U.S.H pray until something happens. i guess i will go with that. :/

  • Amanda B says:

I think I missed it… but just wanted to say hello and I’m totally not a complete dork that you met. Just a stay at home mom that kind of gets a little “the weird kid” when I get to talk to other adults. Anyway, loved meeting you, love your blog, love those boots your splurged on, and I am looking forward to more. Just don’t wreck your car again. That’s scary stuff. We’d miss you even though you “aren’t important like dooce” LOL seriously, I’m still giggling about that. I’m just glad that I only have friends, family, and the occasional random stalker that reads my blog so no trolls.

  • Kristen says:

I’m a fan. I think your writing is hilarious, and your candor warms my heart.

  • Courtney A says:

Delurking…..After reading your post about your accident I felt really guilty about giving the person who ran into the back of my mini van such an attitude. So I would like to apologize to her (for my attitude) and thank her for having such a nice insurance company to work with (while dealing with our repairs).

    • loralee says:

I totally get where you were at, though! They hit you! Not being in the best mood is COMPLETELY understandable. I’m sure she understood. I expected it from the woman I hit and it was a huge and lovely surprise when she was so nice. I wouldn’t have blamed her for ripping my face off, but they were outstandingly kind to me. I am so glad that she has good insurance. Mine has been good, too. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

  • Beth says:

I love you and your crazy life and I check in every day. I am not officially delurking since I try to comment often. I usually try to come up with something witty to say, since all of your other commenters are so full of WIT. Ahem. I am trying to walk the fine line bewtween a lurker and a stalker. Wait…wouldn’t they be the same thing?!!! I am a bit confused as to what I am other than being a big FAN. Thanks for sharing your “stuff” with us! And Happy De-lurking day! ;)

  • Sunday says:

Hi I’m Sunday, in suburban Detroit. I am a foster care alumni, wife, mother of 3, part time homeschooler, stay at home mom and gymnastics coach. I just found your blog about a week ago, I hope you are feeling better today!

  • CG says:

Love your blog, Loralee! I do comment on occasion, but mostly lurk, so I suppose it’s fitting I “de-lurk” today. ;)

I should be asleep, but I’m wired…I’m rather excited about a date I have tomorrow with a guy I haven’t seen in 10 years. :-D

  • Neeroc says:

Hi,I think this is one of the blogs I have to delurk on! Must get around to commenting more.

  • Laura K says:

    Hello Loralee!
My husband keeps telling me I need to start a craft blog. I am always talking about how I found a better way to do this and that and the other and how I wish I could show people how to do it. I just don’t know how much people would want to be a part of my life. I am really quite boring! Anywho, I love your blog and want to say thank you for sharing your little slice of Utah with me since I can’t be there anymore. And I hope you are healing well from your accident.

    • loralee says:

I’m getting there. It’s been tough trying to keep up with Butterlump (and today is the day the painkillers run out. I hate that day. Sigh)

Craft blogs are awesome! You should totally start one. I’ve loved getting to know the crafters and artists I’ve met from Where Women Create. You’d likely fit right in!

  • Heather says:

I have commented a few times, but read your blog religiously.(Which since I live in Cache Valley and am one of the 3 people that don’t go to church I would say that is a big deal.) Would love to run into you sometime. I met Prairie Moma at Smith’s one day and I think I freaked her out. Went right up to her and told her how much I loved her blog. She was very kind. But I think she thought I was crazy. Thanks for your insights on life…..it makes me feel like I am not alone in a lot of things, and maybe really not as crazy as I think I am. (A 3 year old can tend to make your mind melt I think.)

  • Gina says:

I’m one of your Bemidji, MN readers, though now I live in Duluth. I love reading your blog. :)

  • Kristin says:

I read but don’t often comment. And I know we share an affinity for music and Air Supply. :)

  • Rick says:

You’re a beautiful, talented woman. And funny as hell. I like that in beautiful, talented women.

Yea, a guy that reads a chick blog. A nice distraction from the mil-, poli-, guy- blogs I read.
    R. Lucas is my other blog(of the girl variety)favorite. You’re in good company, there.

    Thanks for your stories.

  • Texan Mama says:

    oh hi.
I recently discovered this girl on YouTube. She’s such a cutie with an incredible voice. here’s one of her videos:

  • Martha says:

    Hi Loralee,
I’ve been lurking since Christmas, 2009 after I saw your group’s performance of Dabu Doray at Citizen of the Month’s holiday concert. You piqued my curiousity and have kept my interest ever since.(Enjoyed your ‘Up on the Housetop’ this year too, but Dabu Doray is still my favourite)
    Cheers!

Oops. I’m a day late. You may remember me as CrustyProfessor. Anyway, though I don’t blog any more I do continue to read yours–with pleasure.

  • April says:

    Howdy, Loralee!

Thanks for the great blog. =)

Feel free to come by and visit my little mommy blog anytime – but you may have to search a bit to find a blog not related to breastfeeding, lol.
