Need to feel better about yourself today? HERE YOU GO. (You’re welcome.)

January 22, 2010

I really wish I had a better excuse for this.

But I don’t.

None.

Nada.

Zip.

Zero.

Oh, wait, there is one.

I’m lazy?

Yeah…that is pretty much it.

This is horribly horrible even for me, though.

Actually, I am getting this squared away as we speak but it has taken me forever to figure out what we’re going to DO with everything once it’s boxed up. And I would rather deal with month old decorations up in my house than more boxes that I don’t know what to do with. Moving into 1,100 square feet has been so icky as far as storage issues (and ONE FREAKING BATHROOM issues) go.  We’ve rearranged the storage unit and so down goes the almost fossilized tree and sad, wilted, jostled and topsy turvy decorations.

Which is a REALLY good thing as it is almost a full MONTH after Christmas and I can no longer pretend that all the red around the house is really just gearing up for Valentines Day. It’s beyond the ridiculous point, peeps. At this rate it is indeed a very Dickens environment, but it is definitely more of the Great Expectations kind than A Christmas Carol.

THE STAR HAS FREAKING COBWEBS AROUND IT FOR PETE’S SAKE.

At this rate I’ll soon go all “Miss Havisham” on everyone’s asses and start walking around my house in a moldy wedding dress and one shoe and keep my breakfast of Diet Coke and…um….Diet Coke sitting on the table for 30 years.

Good thing I have an appropriate hat.

Sigh.

your not the only one, i am lazy too. the porch is still decorated with a tree, lights and red ribbons. i was literally on my porch not 10 minutes ago trying to gear myself to take it down but its so much easier to be lazy :)

If it makes you feel any better, decorations are still up at my house, too. HOWEVER, I fought tooth and nail with the husband for that right. Two weekends ago, he said, “We should take this stuff down, huh?” and I whined. I LOVE having the decorations up – so cozy and bright. Besides, with a fake tree, who says it needs to come down at a certain time? I’ve given myself until February 1st. It doesn’t hurt that my own sister has given herself the same deadline…it must run in the (Procrastinating) family. ;o) Good luck finding space for your things!

My wreath is still on my door. I blame my husband who buried the box for it when “rearranging” the garage. Rearranging is in quotes because the garage lost all order because he “rearranged” so he could find old nitendo games. BOYS!

  • AmazingGreis says:

I love this post. Because, yes, I too still have all of my Christmas decorations still up in the house. There is no excuse for my laziness, except it takes too much time to take it all down!!!! So don’t worry, I’m in your boat!!!

  • Molly says:

If it makes you feel any better, we just took our tree down this week. I miss it.

  • TentCamper says:

    Oh Hell No!!!!!

We have a very strict schedule around here for when decorations go up and down. The cob webs are hysterical!!

1,100 square feet????? I feel for you!

  • That almost bothers me enough to offer to come take care of it for you. If you leave it up for another month, my willpower would probably die and I’d get on a plane.

I told my husband if he didn’t get the outdoor lights down last month, I’d cut them off with hedge trimmers. There are few things he hates more than taking his lights down “early”, but wasting $1.99 strings of lights is one of them. I won.

  • lceel says:

Nice hat. Nice tree …sorta. Looks a little … tired? Actually, it looks like if you touch it you’re going to have a huge pile of needles right there on the floor. You’d better put a diaper on that thing.

  • Texan Mama says:

First of all, you rock the hat.

Second of all, I just took my deco down yesterday. I didn’t realize I was way over due. It’s been less than a month! I mean, the weather isn’t even warm yet. No need to freeze our fingers into frostbite just to make the house all tidy. I say, go with comfort. Go with clutter. Embrace the redneck woman inside.

  • Haha my place looked like that a little longer this year too. Have two Rockstars in a row and ROCK THAT SHIT DOWN. Trust me on this. Blast music too. Preferably Lady Gaga.

  • joeinvegas says:

We pull the stuff down New Years Day just after the Rose Parade (no, not a football watching household). That tree is looking a little tired and dry, and the cobwebs? (ha)

  • Ok the star made me giggle.

  • Lisa S says:

You’re complaining about 1100 sq ft and one bathroom? Ha! I have you beat…try 900 square feet and one bathroom and TWO that is TWO teenage girls, 19 and 16. NOWHERE to put things….so when we know someone is coming over all my piles go in my room on my bed. lol! Mine are down but I always seem to miss an oddly placed decoration ….and it stays up all year.

  • Kim says:

You slay me. You know that right? What kills me even more though are how many others admitted that their Christmas stuff is still up. ACK! Mine came down 2 days after Christmas.

  • Kirsten says:

I thought I was doing bad. I do have the tree down, but the rest of the decorations are still up. Thanks for making me feel better.

  • Heather says:

I still have xmas at my house too. The embarassing part is 1) i am the only one on the street that does 2) i have big wreathes and lights and a visible xmas tree (still lit up) in my front room.

Worse more? the gifts are still by teh tree, we haven’t put anything away yet. it’s a mess. I don’t care.

  • Doug says:

I just love the thought of you walking around the house in that hat, completely oblivious. Or maybe completely blivious. It’s something I would do, but more like without clothes.

  • Suzy Voices says:

Every time we drive down the street and my son sees houses with Christmas lights on, he says “Take down the lights, people! It’s January!!”

I say just leave ‘em up all damn year.

  • Cricket says:

My tree made it out the front door. It is now on the front lawn still in the stand! It will remain there until Spring!

  • Love the hat, and love you. I laughed out loud over the cobwebs. :o)

  • Milica says:

XD Call me strange, but I love the star with the cobwebs XD

It’s okay Loralee, you were very sick at Christmas. I won’t pass judgement on that. Though your “Ms. Havisham” description was hilarious XD.

  • Bridget says:

I’m so glad that there are a bunch of us who still have Christmas stuff out! My mom came over the other day and was giving me hell about it! Oh, well…

  • Mad Woman says:

Normally this would be me too. Except without the snazzy hat. But this year we only had four decorations up, so I managed.

    Love the hat though!

  • Amy says:

    You’re awful.

(Let’s just not discuss how I took our tree and decorations down 2 days ago, and how there are still lights on our bushes out front.)

My house is about the same size as yours, but we have 1.75 bathrooms. I almost feel your pain. Almost. I can’t completely because of that .75 of a bathroom. :)

  • Scatteredmom says:

Omg, 1100 sq feet? I’ve been there. SO freaking tiny. With three kids?

    *sigh* ouch.

  • Michelle says:

My tree and decs are down – only because my son did them at the start of the year. I do know of someone who keeps her tree up all year so she doesn’t have to do it again. The lights are still outside our house, sometimes on, sometimes off. Just adds character to our court, I say.

  • sandi says:

    You made my week!

  • Jen says:

I sooooo feel your pain. We went from 2100 sq ft 4bed 4bath to 800 sq ft, 2 bed 1 bath. Now we’ve gone back up to 1500 sq ft but still one bath–it feels sooo roomy, but my boys are learning to use the facili-trees out back when the single seater is occupied. Takes some getting used to. Oh, and I have a few wreaths piled on my porch too.

  • Hey, we have our christmas tree still standing too, but that’s because here it is the tradition to take the christmas decorations down on the Feast of Presentation of Jesus to the Temple (Gosh, this name is awfully long in English xD) on February 2nd, so… we still have time x)

And if that’s comforting, for 4 people in our family (plus a cat xD) we’ve got only 500 square feet (about 46 square metres, I’m not sure if I’m converting it right…) in an appartement with only 2 rooms, kitchen and bathroom :P The appartement that I share with a friend in Cracow, where I study, is actually 4 square metres bigger than my parents’ xD And they are the ones that are paying for the rent xD (Well, half of that, the other half is payed by my flatmate’s parents xD)

    ciao,
    Amy.

  • Alison says:

This is the first year in MANY that my Christmas decorations went both up & down in a reasonable time frame. I think it has to do with having only 2′ to walk between the couch and the tree! But the garage is pretty big so easy to put the decor away. We moved from 1900 sf family rm, eat-in kitch & combo living/dining to 1000 sf with living rm just big enough for one couch and the dining set. It’s been a year and just now am I starting to feel I have breathing room (by constantly purging & rearranging).

  • MommyTime says:

Oh Loralee. I loved you before, but now I ADORE you. Anyone who goes all Miss Havisham on my ass in a post is the Queen of Awesome as far as I’m concerned. Seriously. And the cobwebs on the star? Totally right out of her life. You rock.

  • Alicia says:

My decorations are still up, too. Ours isn’t a storage issue. It’s pure laziness. Yup. I admit it, as well. But I do love your star. It’s purty–even with the cobwebs!

  • Sarcastica says:

Oh man that is bad lol! I hope it’s down now at least? lmao :)

  • Mrs. Wilson says:

I have the same mouse pad!!!

I don’t allow Christmas decorations past New Year’s. I’m a grinch like that. I’m hardcore lazy, but my grinchiness supersedes my laziness.
