This month is going to kill me, I swear.

July 16, 2009

I have so flipping much to say and yet today has been so freaking long and exhausting moving, taking kids to a movie, more moving, painting, sanding, I really think that I will leave you a tiny bit of photographic evidence of what I and a large portion of my friends and family have been doing lately. (And it? Is only a tiny, TINY fraction. Ugh.)

BEFORE

This kitchen suckasuckasuckaSUCKED before. The cabinets were decades old and extremely cheap. I hated them. There was a chimney we ripped out, all the bead board was repainted, the walls were retextured…basically the floor is the only thing we kept.

AFTER-”ISH” (It’s not all done but I’ll repost when all the bits and bobs are in place)

Better, no? I was worried that it was on the verge of being the dream kitchen of a high school goth that writes cheesy poems about their pain, but as I move more things in it seems less and less so.

This is one of my favorite things. My disposal turns on with this button. Very cool.

We still have to tile the backsplashes with this:

And this corner where my fridge used to sit is going to be a desk/computer/information center. I am most excited about it. We finished most of it tonight but I forgot my camera. You’ll see photos later. You know, after I am moved in and dead of tired.

Anyhoo…there is SO MUCH MORE.

Seriously, you cannot imagine the work that has been done on this house. We won’t get it all done before we’re out of our townhouse by next Monday but by the time we wrap everything up every single room will be repainted, refixtured, redone, ect.

All for under $3,000.

It REALLY helps to have inlaws that are all construction/electrical/plumbing/allthingsremodel savvy.

Did I mention that after we are (supposed to be) moved out of our town house by Monday I have to board a plane on Wednesday and fly to Chicago to BlogHer to be charming and lovely with 1,000 other bloggers?

I wonder what everyone will think if I just walk around looking like this the entire conference?
cry
Cause I have a feeling it is exactly how I will feel. Only fatter and with fewer eyebrows. (Did I mention that the one thing I decided to splurge on and have done was getting my eyebrows waxed and SHE WAXED THE DAMN THINGS ALMOST ENTIRELY OFF?? No? Man…we have a lot to catch up on. Also…No one can ever acuse me of only posting flattering photos on this website ever again.)

Ugh.

It’s late.

The baby is crying.

I will probably start crying next.

Hold me.

Stumble it!

I definately know remodeling a kitchen can be a huge undertaking. -We just finished ours. And our bathroom is next. *sigh* The work is never done. Hang in there though, cause having everything nice and new in a room feels soo good, you almost forget the pain of getting there.
I posted pics of my remodel too, you can check them out here:

    (((HUGS)))

I’m sure you’ll look lovely at Blogher, plus the other bloggers will understand. :)

  • Crystal says:

    I love the open shelves.

  • sandi says:

You are my favorite! That picture is now framed on my nightstand. You ROCK!

The kitchen look amazing! You are doing it woman, you can pull this all off. I will see in a week! YAY!!

  • oh honey, I wish I was closer so I could help out, I love painting. I can’t wait to see you. I also have neglected to get something in the mail to you so I think I will wait until I see you at BlogHer. Much love you girlie. xoxo

  • Miss Grace says:

If I see you looking like that, I’ll snuggle you.

  • Oh honey. Thank god there was no one around to take a pic of me the last few weeks. I had my share of those moments.

The kitchen looks great. LOVE the red.

Can’t wait to see you at BlogHer!

  • MaryEllen says:

the way the red photographs it is my red. that is why I was a little thrown by the more rustic red it is. Love it though! Sorry we had to quit last night before we got the kitchen all moved. Had a great day and evening with you!

  • Erin W. says:

Hey, Loralee- Goodness gracious, what a lot of work. It looks fantastic though. Seriously.
And that pic of you? You actually look kind of cute… Not that I like seeing you crying, but you could look a lot worse. When I cry, my entire face swells us and turns bright red. (Think weird Claire Danes crying face mixed with Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka – only red.)
And lord knows I’ve been doing a lot of that recently. My husband let his loser jobless friend move into our garage. I have no privacy and have to feed my child in my bedroom anytime I want to feed her. UGH. IT SUCKS.
Hope you feel better soon. I’m sure you’ll have a great time at BlogHer. I’d love to go… Maybe next year.

  • Wow, you are very brave to post a photo like that of yourself, though I can’t tell which one is worse, this one or the one you posted of you in labor. I mean this will all love, of course.

I think BlogHer will be a tremendous break for you. I hope you can get everything wrapped up well enough to be able to leave in peace!

  • witchypoo says:

Man, that is one powerful image of you. I’m feeling ya. Hugs.

  • Aw Loralee, I’d go nuts with a kitchen in progress, you poor girl.

We were in Salt Lake just recently on a family road trip, and I can’t imagine with the heat and a tiny baby, plus other kids, how you can cope. I’d be looking like that too.

Anyhway I hope it’s done fast, the weather cools off, and you have a fantastic time at Blog Her! Wish I was going too. :) Maybe next year when we go through Salt Lake I’ll have to drop you off a big pack of Canadian Smarties or something.

  • Connie says:

    That looks 100 times better!

When you board that plane for Chicago…just enjoy yourself. You deserve it!

  • Sue says:

Poor baby! Many hugs to you! On the bright side, your kitchen ROCKS. So, see? There is much happy to be had.

  • stephen says:

ok, can i just come over and cook in that kitchen? i swear i won’t move in, i’ll just cook, serve and leave. probably mexican food. couple cold beers, stuff like that. hang in there! steve

  • Erin W. says:

If you don’t take Steve up on that offer, I will!!! ;)

  • Tauni says:

Man I wish I could come and help you but with having just had 2 surgeries there is just no way!!!

I am super impressed with the $3k budget and all that awesome work…congrats!!!

  • Margie says:

It looks most excellent. By the time you’re at BlogHer- this will all seem a distant, bad, memory… now let’s just hope your husband knows what’s good for him and doesn’t leave a giant mess for you to come home to (like my husband always does)- Oh, and I’m sorry about the brows
:( Once, a lady took WAY too much off the top of mine and it gave the illusion that they were really, really low… I cried- so I feel your pain-

  • Emily says:

All the annoyances and difficulties and hard work are really paying off…the kitchen looks AMAZING!!!

  • Becca says:

I am so glad you are still here! My stupid google reader is not updating your page when you post, so I thought you had disappeared.

I clicked on your homepage to email you and there were new posts, Yeah Me!!!

I wish we had an IKEA here in St. Louis, don’t they know that midwestern lesbians love to shop at giant warehouses of cheap furniture???

  • andrea says:

the only reason why i don’t have pictures of me looking like that? i don’t wear make up. the whole emotional explosion? i totally do that– in huge amounts actually. i feel your stress but i do not understand it (as i am not in the same situation). i too am having kitchen issues. i too am so stressed i could pull out my hair and the hair of those around me.

it will get better as the things get accomplished. heck having your kitchen at the point it is? totally a bonus!! you are moving forward & progressing!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!

  • raygon says:

Your kitchen looks lovely. Way to go. And such a small budget. That is impressive!

I hate it when my eyebrows are waxed too thin.

    Have fun at Blog Her.

  • Debbie in Memphis says:

Love the kitchen and LOVE the burrito baby and you. (even without your gorgeous eyebrows) Cannot wait to see photos and hear all the stories from Chicago. Wish I was going to be there :-(

  • Jo says:

I’m having kitchen envy. Also, if I were there you would be getting big hugs and lotsa lovins and anything else I could think of to help you destress.

  • Jo says:

I meant that in a totally non-pervy way of course. We call snuggles ‘lovins’ in my family. LOL

  • Alison says:

Great Job! We did a similarly budgeted kitchen remodel when I was pregnant with our first, except he came early, so I spent the first month post-partum running to Home Depot and trying to find someone for cheap to put the roof jack for the ceiling fan in, etc, etc. So I would not be surprised if you slept through BlogHer though I do hope you manage to find the energy to have fun.
