The world is just awesome

April 22, 2009

Happy Earth Day, everyone. This is me in my very favorite geographical location in the world (so far): SCOTLAND.

It was taken seconds after seeing my first thistle. (I know it grows where I live but this is SCOTTISH thistle, yo! TOTALLY different. Hee.)

I traveled there on a trip to the UK a few years ago with my fabulous friend, Michelle.
It was THE trip of my life. We had THE best time and I will never forget it.

It is not hard to see why Scotland is my choice. I love everything from the climate and scenery to the history and people. It is GORGEOUS:

We even spotted the Loch Ness monster during our picnic on the banks. (Totally hair-curling, no?)
I think that no matter where else I travel in this world of our, this will be the place and the trip closest to my heart. It grabbed hold and will never let go.

I know there is more to Earth Day like being green and recyling and conservation, but others are so much better to write about that. My point of this post is to give a hearty appreciation to the earth and tell you my favorite place on it.

And to have an excuse to post this video again.

I could watch this commercial over and over and over again. It just makes me happy and appreciative. (Plus, I am super fond of The Discovery Channel.)

Watch it. I bet it makes you grin.

And you? What is your favorite place in the world?

Stumble it!

    Mwah!

I know a lot of people will say home (and my spectacularly pretty valley surrounded by mountains is one of my favorite places for sure)but it is NOT green enough or rainy enough for me.

  • Oh man, that’s a really hard choice. I’ve been very blessed to have lived and visited so many amazing places, including Scotland, which is one of THE prettiest places on earth, for sure.

Hmm, favorite place…surprisingly, given my love of rain and seasons, I think I’m gonna have to go with, Arizona. Driving through that state on our recent trip I was reminded of how beautiful the desert can be. Also, Annalie was born in Scottsdale so Arizona will forever hold a special place in my heart for that reason.

Of course immediately after I typed that I thought, but I also really love Eastern Nebraska, where I grew up; southeastern Ontario; Vancouver, BC; England; San Diego…my answer would probably change depending on my mood and the season and the day of the week!

Right now I would say Utah. I am so ready to be back in a state that has mountains!!

As for around the world. Brazil is absolutely amazing and so is Grand Cayman. I think it would be a toss up between the 2!

Home is pretty good. But I will say that anywhere, as long as I can be in the ocean (swimming/surfing) is the best.

Of all the places I’ve been so far, Skyline Drive in Virginia is my favorite place. It is so beautifully green, peaceful and has special family memories associated.

The coolest thing is that my sister agrees and invited our family to vacation there with hers this summer. It’s time to show our kids why its so special to the two of us.

I’m so jealous that you’ve been to Scotland! Someday I will hopefully get the chance. Also I’m leaving this post open all day so I can just watch the video over and over again.

    Scotland IS awesome!
I live in the UK, and feel I get just about enough rain though – so my favourite place involves a serious amount more sun.
Where abouts did you visit in Scotland?

  • Becca says:

My fave place is a toss up between my home (North Georgia mountains), not where I live now (Missouri), and Ireland.

I often wonder why the Irish feel so called to home, but every time I see it my heart just aches to be there.

You are such a pretty girl! :)

  • I love my home, but if I could have this home anywhere in the world, I’d probably pick somewhere in Italy.

  • Headless Mom says:

The Lake District in England. Ooh, I should write about that and why. The short of it is daffodils and and the RAF.

  • Sharon says:

I love that video – I watch it over and over too.

My favourite place on earth would have to be at the top of a peak on a small island just off the coast of Vancouver BC, or Hawaii. Basically any place where I can see the mountains and the ocean.

  • We had that commercial in our DVR for a while. The Chicken really liked it. For whatever reason it makes me misty each time I watch it. Probably because I am a dork.

My fave place that I have been was when we went camping in the Sequoias. The trees, the mountains. It was just breathtaking for a gal from a very flat Northeastern Ohio.

I’d have to say my favorite place is Yellowstone Park. I spent almost every summer there as a kid.

  • JoeInVegas says:

We took a vacation a few years ago and drove around France. I just fell in love with Beynac, a small town on the Dordogne river, old buildings with a castle up on the hill.

  • Carmen says:

Prettiest place I’ve ever been is probably Mexico. Prettiest place I’ve not been but want to go – either Ireland or Scotland.

    I’m so jealous of you.

  • Sra says:

If we’re talking places that most make me appreciate the earth, then it’s southern Utah all the way. And also being on top of Mt. Olympus in Salt Lake, and standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The West is just incredible. The best trip of my life, however, was probably my cross-country road trip. I recommend that everyone see this country from the ground at least once.

It’s also administrative professionals day today. Go secys!

  • soul fusion says:

such a great post idea! I am going to have to steal your idea . . . and try and come up with just one favorite place on this big beautiful planet!

  • Sue says:

Yay! I’m so glad you posted these pictures. Scotland is at the top of my list of places I MUST visit, so you totally made my day.

  • Erin W. says:

I would love to go to Scotland. I haven’t done much traveling, but of the places I HAVE been, Arizona in the spring is BEAUTIFUL. I’m one of those people who gets cold (really cold) when it gets below 60, but the climate there is so strange… There was snow on the ground, but I was able to comfortably wear shorts and a tank top. It was great!

The places I’d like to explore though are New Zealand, Ireland, and Japan. I think that those places would be beautifully scenic.

  • Megan says:

Sometimes a place just feels like home, you know, even though you’ve never been there before. It’s like some part of you just belongs there. I have two places like that. One is Galway in Ireland. I’ve been there 3 times and every time is the same. It feels like my place. The second is Sky Pond which is in the Rocky Mountain National Park at the end of a long climb. It is the most peaceful place I’ve ever been and also feels like home.
