It’s great that you have a sister who can make you laugh at a sad occasion.
Most of my family has this ability. It’s how we deal with things.
As an aside: we’re not disrespectful. Not that anyone implied this, I just wanted to clarify as humor in sad situations can be a tricky subject. I also know not everyone would find this funny or deals with sad things with humor.
That is absolutely awesome, especially since it sounds like she knew just what you needed to hear. Humor in times of grief can be such a nice balm.

At my friend N’s funeral, which was at a very Baptist church, there was a woman dancing in the aisle with a ribbon, throwing it around and being “artistic” to celebrate N’s life. My friend turned to me and whispered, “What. The. F*ck.” and it totally helped me get through it. Which is a long way to say, your sister is awesome.
There are people who know just how to push your buttons – how wonderful when it’s the ‘funny button’.

I was laughing so hard at the mental imagery of Marin’s comment that my husband came out of the shower to investigate if I was dying of mad cow disease or something.
I totally want an artistic ribbon dance in celebration of my life when I die. I think I’m going to tell Jonathan he has to do. And he’ll have to wear a sparkly spandex body suit to represent my inner soul.

Another good alternative is to bring a one month old baby to the funeral and have her fill her pants like only a tiny baby can do, with sound effects and all, in the middle of the service. The bonus is that while stifling your laugh, the people behind you might think you’re crying (that is if they didn’t hear the thunder down under — which apparently people four and five pews away could hear). Classic!
Loralee, I am already working up my interpretive dance routine for your funeral. It’ll be particularly “special” when I’m about 95!

This is so something I would have done and the way I would have reacted! I have a really grim and bizarre sense of humor, so I do not think that you were being disrespectful.
