Quantcast

The prettiest songs ever? -OR- For the love of all that is holy, help me make it stop!

Does everything about me have to radically be thrown off kilter with this pregnancy?

Seriously?

I’m not talking about food. Hormones. Emotions. Clothing. Hair. Skin.

Nope.

The area currently effected is: MUSIC.

For the last two weeks I have pretty much been listening to one song.  Over and over and OVER to the point that I am going effing MAD AND OUT OF MY MIND AND YET? I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO THE DAMN THING.

Really, while it’s a great tune, the selection is socially embarrassing and jr. high-esque and it kinda makes me want to curl up in a little ball of pregnant shame with a bottle of Aussie Scrunch Spray and weep into my Trapper Keeper. (And I spout my love of Air Supply and Neil Diamond freely, so this has to be good, right?)

Ok…Breathe.

My current music obsession that I must at all costs KNOCK THE HELL OFF is:

Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi.

There.

I said it.

And if you mock me for this I will hunt you down, tie you up, duct tape your mouth and MAKE YOU LISTEN TO IT WITH ME ON REPEAT UNTIL YOU START TO BLEED FROM YOUR EARS!!!! I may be freakishly weak but hell hath no fury like a pregnant woman being mocked for her totally irrational musical taste.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY HELP A GIRL OUT.

I need musical distractions to get the lyric, “With an ironclad fist I wake up and french kiss the morning” out of my head.

(DUDE. What kind of freakishly lame lyric is that, anyway?! It makes me have a really obscene image of a mulletted and hairy chested John Bon Jovi taking care of his morning “ISSUES” *EHEM* in bed while making out with tongue with some imaginary chick laying on top of him or something. Of course, even though she is imaginary she probably has a matching mullet as well, only it would be spiral permed and frosted. ).

See what kind of mental hell the last two weeks has driven me to????

I tweeted the other day asking for great music finds and was diverted from my 9th grade shangrila for half a whole day and found some great new music (even if it was not appreciated by some. Hmmph!)

SO?

Help a girl out.  Send me some new tunes.  Or some old ones I may have missed out on.  I know that people think of me as being a musical dork but honestly, I don’t know many who are as musically diverse as I am. I like at least a couple of examples of ALL kinds of music, even if it isn’t what I listen to regularly.

The main requirement????

PRETTY.

PRETTY. PRETTY. PRETTY. (Oh, and did I mention pretty?)

I would like something that is more obscure. A “diamond in the rough”, a new find. Ect.

I am a sucker for a ballad.  I love great lyrics.  Sad songs are fabulous.  I love extremely catchy tunes as well (Think: “Love today” by Mika)

DISCLAIMER: If you send Mariah Carey I WILL kill you.

WHAT ARE THE “PRETTIEST” SONGS YOU KNOW?

I pink puffy heart “bed of roses”.

Right now, we both love Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” and I totally love Coldplay’s “Viva la vida”.

How about Bryan Adams – Everything I Do.

Similar in feel to Bed of Roses…but less overblown.

Or Celine Dion – It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.

Terrible. I should be fired from commenting.

“I pink puffy heart “bed of roses”

I guarantee that after eleventy hundred straight listens to it? You would take that pink puffy heart and strangle it with your bra strap and then stomp its battered fuchsia remains with the heel of your shoe until it was obliterated forever.

    ;)

I’m not ashamed to admit that I heart Bed of Roses as well. I may or may not have made up a dance routine to that song once. Hee.

I’ll echo the love for Viva La Vida. Also, an album that I’m seriously hearting (and have been for the past few months) is “Eyes Open” by Snow Patrol. Anything by The Swell Season and Paolo Nutini is pretty fantastic as well.

I’m so sorry! I think I mentioned my hatred for the whiny voice of Bon Jovi recently. That is pure and simple hell-and worse than Chinese Water Torture!

Pretty songs? I found out you share the love for October Project, and “Take Me As I Am” is probably one of the best songs, ever.

Others that may fit your criteria:
*Behind the Waterfall, David Lanz and Paul Speer (no vocals, but pretty)
*Love love love Marillion, and my favorites are “Made Again”, “Sympathy”, “Kayleigh” and “Easter”. There are a lot of pretty songs interspersed among some great progressive rock.
    *Why Worry, Dire Straits
*Basia. I can’t think of a dud among all of her albums, but the prettiest are “Yearning”, “Time and Tide” and “Ordinary People”
*You probably have a great knowledge of show tunes. My audition piece is a beauty from “Starting Here, Starting Now” “Autumn”. When I perform it, no one seems to know it-but it’s very melancholy.
*A pretty 38 minutes is the soundtrack, “The Man from Snowy River”
*Kellie Coffey does a great cover of “Dance with my Father” and a 3 hanky song of her own “I Would Die for That” about her struggles to have a baby. Beautiful voice
    *”Flesh and Blood” Wilson Phillips

This is probably overkill, but I’m a little nuts about my music. Heck, I’ve got three mixes I used in doing classes at a previous job that are two hours of pretty stuff. I just play those when I need to destress.

Hopefully, someone hits on a song or a hundred to wash Bon Jovi out of your brain!

These are all by Nichole Nordeman. She is a Christian artist but these 3 songs will appeal to a very wide audience. The third is about asking God for things/help. It was written during the very bad drought that Colorado suffered in the last decade or so, (she lives in Colorado.)

I hope no one is offended by these choices-Nichole is an amazing artist, has a beautiful voice, and I’m really craving this cd-my car stereo is busted and that is about the only time I have to listen to music. They are pretty!
