Do you recognize this TV theme song?

If you do, I will love you so much I will squee and lick you!

Careful, you are about to date yourself. *

(You might want to make sure your speaker volume isn’t up too high. I’m just sayin’)

I loved this show. Especially the end segment of “The Bloodhound Gang”. I totally thought I was going to be a detective when I grew up. Well, that or the Queen of England. Some dreams die a bitter, bitter death.

I loved so many TV shows from the 80′s: Silver Spoons, Heart to Heart, Fantasy Island, The Cosby Show, Moonlighting, The Smurf’s, and I totally wanted a bedroom complete with tilting flower cart to sleep in just like the one Punky Brewster had. I also cop to the fact that I started watching Days of Our Lives in the 80′s and I STILL WATCH IT FROM TIME TO TIME.

(I know, I know. I cannot help it. It is a sickness. Sigh.)

And who could forget MCGYVER?

The only man who could take a gum wrapper, some duct tape and a paper clip and make a nuclear missile.

Yup, McGyver and his mullet were one mean, lean crimefighting science geek machine. All business up front and a PARTY in the back.

(I totally wanted to put a photo of Richard Dean Anderson here with pink puffy hearts photoshopped in all around his head, but I think that would violate quite a few copyright laws. SO…just picture him and his mullet in a leather jacket staring at the camera like he wants to make hot, hot, scientific love to you right here, right NOW! Rad.)

So…what about all of you? What great TV memories do YOU have?

This is one of those posts you write, pre-publish, re-read and go, “What the hell was I thinking?”

My apologies for the 2 minutes of your life you will never get back.

That said, I still think that 3-2-1 Contact is awesome. So is Froyd. And Sue. And Bemidji State University.

    That is all.

My sister and I were just talking about The Bloodhound Gang! That’s actually the only part of 3-2-1 Contact I remember. I would totally Tivo that show (said the girl who has 3 episodes of Family Ties on her Tivo right this very minute). Other than that, I think you named every single show I watched back then.

Wait, what about The Greatest American Hero? “Believe it or not, I’m walking on air, I never thought I could be so freeeeee. Flying away on wing and a prayer, who could it beee? Believe it or not, it’s just meeeee.” Um, that was all just lurking in my brain. Embarrassing.

321 contact was awesome. I felt like I was so cool watching it, too. And isn’t Days of Our Lives running the same Bo-Hope-Marlena-John storylines or am I missing something?

    LOL! Loralee….you are so funny.

I do not remember that show. I was forced to watch whatever my Dad wanted to watch. And I always had my nose in a book. I was not severely addicted to TV like I am now.

I started watching Y&R from birth! DH and I watch it together every night.

I loved The Love Boat and Fantasy Island even though it often scared the crap out of me sometimes.

Hart to Hart? Yep. Silver Spoons? Yep. Falcon Crest….Dallas….Knot’s Landing…..Love Boat….Facts of Life…The Cosby Show.

The 2 soap operas that I can still watch randomly and “somewhat” get the gist of are Days and Guiding Light.

However, for me, blogs are probably the equivalent of “watching my stories”. Heh.

Wow, not only do I remember the show AND all the words to the themesong, but sometimes when I’m feeling particularly groovy I even still sing it to myself!! Yeah baby, because contact is the answer, is the reason, that everything happens! Contact – let’s make contact! (funky guitar groove goes down right here)

I loved 321 Contact and Square One TV (on right after it). Of course, I was only allowed to watch educational TV, so didnt have much to compare it to. But I still credit those shows for finally explaining fractions in a way that made sense, after a year of my teacher failing to do so (isnt it amazing what you remember so many years later!).

    Great show.

Square One. Ah 1123 1123. Does anyone else remember that episode with the parrot?

  10. 10

I started listening to the clip and was shocked when the words just came back to me and I started singing along.

    I miss The Smurfs.

And I watched an episode of MacGyver a little while ago and was really disappointed with how bad it seemed. So maybe I don’t want to go back and re-live all the shows I used to love, just in case it sours the memories.

  11. 11

Loved 321 contact. a couple of years ago (okay more like 5) I found it on one of the kiddie stations at 3 in the morning. So I set my alarm and got up and watched it. I have to admit while it was cool, the memory was much cooler.

ps. When The Smurfs was in it’s heyday, one of my high school teachers nicknamed me Smurf in high school and it stuck..hated it!

You still watch Days of Our Lives? Man, those characters are STILL the same from when I was in the womb. My Mom watches that show like it’s her second religion. I happened to catch a few minutes of it once and was like: WTF? Stefano has died 10 times! He’s like a cockroach. You can’t kill him.

Oh man I had a serious thing for Silver Spoons. And Punky Brewster. When I was real, real little? Scooby Doo. I would hyperventilate if I thought I wouldn’t be home in time to see it. Seriously.

Early high school was DOMINATED by Days of our Lives. I was seriously addicted to that show and my friends kept trying to stage interventions. It was ugly.

Recently, I have been debating about how to do MacGyver surgery on myself. Surely yanking out two diseased little ovaries can’t be all that tough. Moreover it is a well known Canadian fact that you can do anything, and I mean anything with duct tape.
After our run on Sunday, we all had brunch, complete with champagne and OJ and one of the runners had brought his almost 2 year old son who was such a joy to have cheering. In Dad’s infinite wisdom, he has taught the little one to say “Pity da fool!”…where is that from???

there were 2 shows though that i can never remember the name of…one about these kids and the library system or something, and the other about an older woman and a train. something caboose. wow, this brings back a whole lot of memories.
