**I just figured out why I am suddenly bothered by how my toilet paper hangs when it never bothered me before. Um, it MAY be because I just moved from a house that had one bathroom and NO toilet paper hanger. We kept it stacked on a a shelf in front of the toilet. It never bothered me because it was never hanging in my house! DUH. I suppose that this would be a perfect illustration of why I was not nominated in the “Brainiest” category for the 2008 Bloggy Hoss Awards, huh?) P.S. I’m an over the top girl, but Backpacking Dad made some good points for back against the wall.
Do you hang the toilet paper with it hanging over the top or so that it comes down the back next to the wall? Because even though I went THIRTY-THREE YEARS on the earth not giving a damn about it one way or the other, since I moved into this new house it TOTALLY MATTERS all of the sudden and I think WWIII may soon commence.
It’s gotten to the point that I am almost tempted to ask “What Would Jesus Do” regarding this matter, but I’m not sure he ever used toilet paper so it would be a moot point. That, and I would totally have to take him in a cage match if he picked THE WRONG WAY TO HANG IT!
So, what about YOU? What way do you hang it? I want to hear what you have to say before I reveal the way I totally, positively KNOW think it should be done.
Spill it, yo!

Whatever way I get it on the stupid roll. Considering how OCD I am… this should surprise you. Anyways, I am too busy scrubbing my floors with a freaking toothbrush to care about the tp.
I actually don’t care. LOL.

OVER THE TOP! And I might go over the top about making sure it’s hung that way.
Heathers last blog post..Presenting…The Father of My Child
I PREFER to hang it so that the paper comes over the top when I pull, rather than from behind the roll.
However, with cats and a baby who love playing with the toilet paper roll, the back/bottom feed is a must. Because as they bat at it on the top it will never unroll all over the floor.

Over the top! That is THE right answer.

over the top. the only way to do it. here if someone puts it on the wrong way i just change it. it’s and easy-off easy-on kind of holder so we don’t have to have wars over it!
natalies last blog post..And we have a winner…
I want to know why it matters all of a sudden? Do you have nicer toilet paper now? Is this new toilet in the new bathroom going to clog up if you use incorrectly-hung toilet paper?
Never mind. I hang it over the top. It looks cleaner. And I used to work at a fabric store with bolts that were displayed the same way. So it’s habit.
Camilles last blog post..I Should Have Gotten a Degree in Marriage.
I have NO FREAKING IDEA why it suddenly matters.
I also have no idea why I can’t sleep until the dishes are done, the house is clean, floor swept, load of laundry started and the house locked down. NONE OF WHICH I really cared about overly before.
I am beginning to think that I’ve been beamed up to the mother ship…
most definitely over the top… and if i find it the other way, i change it.every.time.

I am a back next to the wall person.
I’m with Backpack Dad on this, for reasons of preventing easy rolling. It stays put much better when the end comes out in the back.

I like it over the top, so I can better see where the paper ends :-) but somebody is turning it to the wall every time…
So the paper goes down the back by the wall, it’s easier for my 4 yr old to rip off a suitable amount that way rather than half a forest each time.

Over the top. Other way is the wrong way and I have problems completing the required tasks until I correct the problem. Yeah, I know, nice thought, huh?
over the top! without a doubt, this is the ONLY acceptable way. :) i change it if I find it otherwise. if it’s down the back, you can’t see it sometimes, it’s hard to find the end, it gets messy.

Over the top so that I can fold the first square of paper inot a pretty little triangle.
I imagine that Martha Stewart does this each time she sits down to take a poopie.
In my house….I say What Would Martha Do?
Connies last blog post..A heavy heart….
Seeing as I am the only one who puts toilet paper on the holder, it ALWAYS MUST go on so that it unrolls from the front.
Unrolling from the back leaves too many possiblities for contamination. If it’s unrolling from the back, your hand may touch the wall trying to pull the toilet paper away from it and that is unacceptable.
Plus, my daughter would have a very difficult time with that- toilet paper usage is tricky enough for her tiny hands without adding improperly loaded toilet paper to the equation. She can barely reach over far enough to grab it from the front of the roll.
I suppose other than one’s need to adjust it for the sake of their cats (?!?) I cannot come up with a good reason to load it backwards. How can you NOT pay attention to the way that you load toilet paper? This is vital stuff!
Before I had a child, I liked the TP to come “over the top.” Now, though, I can’t put my TP on the roll because it has to be “out of reach.” Know what I mean? Now we look like a lazy family who won’t take five seconds to change the TP roll because we leave it sitting on the counter.

I like it to come from underneath. It provides better leverage for a one-handed tear. Not that I’m doing anything special with the other hand. I just don’t want to reach across and have to use two hands just to tear off some toilet paper.

I’m an over-the-topper. The cats and the pre-schooler wouldn’t have it any other way.
calicobebops last blog post..Baby, it’s HOT outside!
Over the top here too. I will also change it if it is backwards. In other people’s houses too. I remember vividly changing it round at my Grandmother’s house when I was about 7, so this isn’t a new development.
Amys last blog post..Fergus says woof
It must be over the top. Anything else is just wrong. Though now that our 9-month old has discovered the joys of unrolling, maybe I’ll have to rethink that.
it is much easier to find when it hangs FROM THE BACK (against the wall). If it hangs over the top it blends in and my word I can roll that thing over and over and over and never find the stupid end to pull from!
heathers last blog post..Fresh Lemon Layer Cake
Over the top. I also must change it if someone has had the audacity to put it on the other way around.
Sharons last blog post..Vegas, baby!
Hmmm…..yeah, maybe when I have my own place I will care, but as I am currently living once more with my parents. I couldn’t care less. I’m more concerned with knowing there is at least some in there since I share the bathroom with two boys and Kasey.
Yeah, I am ready to move. Thanks for asking.

I hang it with the paper over the top
We don’t have a toilet paper holder. It sits on the shelf by the toilet so you get to choose which way you want it to unroll!
Hanging down from the back (when it actually gets hung)
over the top fo sho!
Corys last blog post..National Hug Your Cat Day
I hang it over the top now, but I went through a phase when I hung it along the wall. Because according to my dad, if you hang it along the back, it’s harder to accidentally unroll way more paper than you need. I imagine that if I had kids, I would go back to hanging it along the wall.
Ambers last blog post..Ye Olde Stone Temple Pilots
It HAS to be hung over the top. How else are you going to find it? I’m usually tempted when at other people’s house to hang their toilet paper the “right” way but I figure it’s not worth the fight.
Just Mes last blog post..First for me
It totally hangs over the top at our house. Even if my dh puts it backwards I ge all OCD about it and change it. It bothers me too much.
hairyshoefairys last blog post..Dinner With Friends
Against the wall is how I put on a new roll, but it doesn’t matter to me how someone else does it. However, since no one else lifts a finger around here, our toilet paper always feeds from the back. :D
My mom insisted we hang it that way, and if we didn’t, she would actually make us leave whatever we were doing to come and fix it the “right” way. My friends thought we were freaks. :(
Now that all of us are grown up, my mom seems to suffer from (selective?) amnesia. Heaven forbid if we should replace a roll of toilet paper THE WAY SHE MADE US DO IT AS KIDS. She has no memory of the against-the-wall thing, and she thinks we got together as adult children to make up the story to drive her crazy.
Yeah, because we all have jobs and kids and LIVES, and making up toilet-paper stories trumps all of those responsibilities.

OVER THE TOP! I will actually change the roll in other people’s house if it’s the wrong way, and yes, down the wall is the wrong way.
How are you supposed to find the end when it’s stuck in between the wall and the roll?
Apparently I care a lot about this issue. Sheesh, off to therapy for me!

Yes, it matters. Even though it all goes the same place anyway.

Over the top is the way. Much easier access that way. And you can’t tell me that you can’t rip it off with one hand when it’s over the top. You totally can. It’s all in how you yank it.
I want to see you in a cage fight with Jesus. I would pay for it.
Sras last blog post..Cursesives
Over the top, top, top. Everybody has put forth great reasons why for both, but the reasons for over the top are better in my humble opinion. Also, hanging it over the top will help avoid having to conduct a “come to Jesus” when we find it hanging behind, against the wall.
I am almost more interested in your comment in the comments… when did you start channeling me?!? Welcome to the dark side; it’s not nearly as perky as it looks over here, but we’re happy to have another sucker in our midsts…
Over the top so that it hangs in the front. I HATE for it to be by the wall.

Years ago, I was in a long-distance relationship. At the beginning, we emailed each other a list of “important” questions in an effort to get to know each other better.
He asked me the toilet paper question…I told him OF COURSE it hangs over the top. Any other way would be just plain wrong.
He wrote back that he now knew I was his dream girl.
(We broke up.)

I will (literally!) change the direction of the toilet paper wherever I happen to be if it is the “wrong” way. The way I prefer it is to have it come over the top. When it goes the other direction it’s impossible to grab. ANNOYING!

Totally totally TOTALLY over the top. THE.END.
Over the top. I’m the only one that changes the roll, so there ya go.
If it’s “wrong” at work, I’ll correct that.
If I come over to your house, I will do the same.
Hanging over the top. And, I am one of those who WILL change it if I come to your house. The other way is just plain wrong.
The End.

I vote for OVER.
I’m also happy to report that on one of her shows, Oprah said that she goes “UNDER”. As Oprah is the equivalent of mold to me, I’m very relieved that I’m not in her camp :)
The Over-Thinkers last blog post..If this is "Wordless Wednesday," is it totally wrong to say, "Hey! No Talking!! Just a picture!" Maybe I’m completely missing the point?
Okay, seriously this is how we do it in our house. We have 3 bathrooms. Each of our teenagers has their own (sounds pompous, it’s not, it’s just the way the house is laid out and I didn’t want to spend my valuable counter space on Acne cream and cheap make-up; and that’s the son’s. I’m kidding that’s both of them.) and they can put it on anyway they want. Just flush the damn toilet!
Now, as for ours: Hubby’s and Mine….one roll over, one roll under. And for the love of all that is, may or should be holy…put the freakin’ toilet seat down. AMEN!
4s last blog post..Go Bud!
Over the top. If it’s not that way then I fix it.
I also am an over the topper and shamefully will admit that if I am at someone’s house and the paper is hanging the “wrong” way, I will happily fix it for them. (Without telling them, of course….I am sure they delight upon the fact that the toliet paper fairy has come and saved them from upside down toliet paper)
But if you are my sister, then she gets all bent out of shape and when she is at my house she changes the paper the “wrong” way just to peeve me off. And she tells me about it!

APPARENTLY I do it differently from V.
Considering he has lived here for 16 months and this is the first I know of it, I have found he is either extremely polite (ha ha) OR he has never changed the toilet roll in all that time.
Everyone here has good points, and I am considering whether I should change?

Usually me and my husband try to out laze the other and because of this competition of laziness there is an empty roll on the holder and a full one on the counter. At least until the other person gets sick of having half wet toilet paper from water splashing onto it from the sink.
Eventually one of us will put it back on the holder and it will go over and down
so it comes down facing you.
I also really love how fancy hotels, fold the paper so it comes to a triangle.

The blog gods look favorably upon you. I mean, 61 comments based on toilet paper? I had to post on my blog about this because I was so impressed and, frankly, flabbergasted. Keep it up!
