Dress rehearsals, thank you’s, “bluve”, and BUSYNESS

June 10, 2008

Thanks for all the amazing, lovely emails and comments regarding my little bug. I “BLUV” you ALL. (Thanks, Backpacking Dad. You are all kinds of awesome for inventing that term.)

For his birthday, we took the boys to see Kung Fu Panda (AWESOME) and Iron Man (Also awesome, although not QUITE as awesome as the first movie’s awesomeness. Just so you know.) We also had a lovely dinner all together and talked about Matthew and just had a good day.

Ok, I did snot and cry off and on a lot and had a really tight and heavy chest the whole weekend, but I try very hard to have a joyous day on his birthday because that is what it WAS. Sunday, I pretty much curled up in a ball but emerged to have a relaxing game night with my little circle of good friends.

Today was a hellishly busy day, though.

I am SOOOOOOO close to having my house running the way I want it. SOOOOOOO close. I worked and ran my heiny off all day and also managed to have a good time with my boys, too. They are still uber excited to organize their little spaces, so they were good workers for their mom today.

After all the running and shopping and sorting and organizing, I looked up at the clock I realized that I only had 30 minutes to shower and style my hair for the beginning of my dress rehearsals for Throughly Modern Millie!

CRAP!

I learned earlier in the day that I am not being wigged (GAH!) and that I would have to come up with my own styling. UM????? I am no expert in hairdo’s from 1922, yo!

Still, I have done 20’s shows before so I Googled, showered, combed, parted, gelled, pinned and PRAYED that it would work out. I chose to do a low bun with fingerwaves on either side of my face and a diamond hair clip. The good thing is that this way, the finger waves hide the mic that is taped to the side of my face.

It is a ROUGH execution (you know, because I had about 15 minutes to get it done before I had to leave) butI think when all was said and done it was ok. I’ll clean it up and play with the whole look before opening night. I am just trying not to freak that once again I am in a dress WITH NO SLEEVES! Dude, my arms suckasuckaSUCK. Oh, well…I’ll just learn to embrace it. Sigh.

I like my stole. I call it, “Chewbacca”.

I only have one other change in this show and that is when I am trying to play a “Teenage orphan”. Muzzy doesn’t play the ingenue well at ALL. So, I am in this ridiculous wig with big hair bows and I wear the same costume Milly wears at the beginning. (How stoked am I that I fit into the dang thing. She’s 18 and has legs that go on forever.)

I do ok in this role but to be funnier I really should be about 15-20 years older, 30-50 lbs. heaver and black. Beggars can’t be choosers, right? Since I don’t have the age, ect. I choose to glam it up. It works, but again, it just isn’t as visually funny. (Although watching me try and dance? THAT is pretty damn hilarious my friends. Movement was always my weak point regarding the stage.)

So, there you are.

I open Thursday, the 19th.

I’ll letcha know how it goes.

Stumble it!
