The good news?
As of 2 hours ago, I have internet and cable television!
(Insert joyous rendition of The Hallelujah Chorus)
The bad news?
I have no DVR.
None.
Nada.
Zip.
Apparently, the complex is changing cable providers in a couple of months and if we got the boxes we would just have to pay to buy new equipment all over again. So for the next little while I have been thrust back into the dark ages of plain, old cable.
GAH!
Let’s just say that I had forgotten what watching television without a DVR is like. I imagine it is similar to using dial-up after years of cable internet. (Shudder and a big hug of compassion to Thing Two out in Cali.)
I had forgotten how much I enjoy having shows that I can watch at my convienence at any hour of the day or night and how handy it is to be able to rewind and fast forward. We won’t even go into how much having to watch commercials sucks the big one.
I imagine that next Jonathan is going to tell me that our complex doesn’t use the US Postal Service and that we’ll have to use smoke signals instead.
Sigh.
P.S. Photos of the new digs are coming, just let me finish picking my underwear off of the floor first.

Awesome Loralee, cant wait to see the new place posted. We are going back to the old ages. I bet you can believe, but Camille and I dont even have cable.
It’s just the transistion that sucks. You’ll get used to it again, just like I did. *hugs*

we don’t even have cable. we get only what we can catch via antenna- talk about dark ages. We’re going to have to buy one of those converter thingies next feb. sigh…
It is all by choice. I know I would become a TV junkie if we had it, so we don’t. We will get it if they ever offer pay by channel! I’d love just the history channel, A&E and E! (a little gluttony never hurt anyone) :)

Yay for cable and internet. Boo for no dvr! I never had a dvr until I moved recently and now I do not think I would like life without it. I’d just give up TV altogether.

If I actually watched shows as they air, I would probably need a DVR. In fact, I think the reason I don’t watch shows in real time is that I can’t ever remember to turn the TV on at the right time. So we make do with our 20-year-old 13-inch TV, rabbit ears, and about 10 channels. And we rent a lot of shows on DVD.

whispers in tiny voice: I don’t have a DVR and never have.
Perhaps that is why I never watch TV.

Solution: TV on DVD. Free from library.

I wish I could summon up some compassion for your lack of DVR, but I’m not even sure I know what it is. But then, I’m mostly on the computer instead of watching television.

At least it’s summer and the good (read: terribly lazily written shows in the second half of the season) are done, so you have some time until the new season starts up.
Netflix-to-TV.
I don’t have cable or antenna reception.
I read a lot. But here’s how I look at your situation. You’ll have time to play with Wilbur (whom you are going to SNEAK into your new place) during those commercial breaks. Grin.
Thanks for the dial-up sympathy/hug. Would you believe that there has been NOTHING done to improve this situation? Still on dial-up with no little ray of “direct/cable” sunsine on the horizon. It’s just sad. Sigh.
I don’t have DVR. I have this weird requirement that shows be watched while they are airing. I mean, watching Lost on Thursday morning would be like if the Cosby Show had been on a Monday night back in the day. Cannot accept.
I’ve been away for awhile, but I also wanted to say CONGRATS on all the cool house stuff! Your home plans look amazing!

I don’t watch much TV, but the DVR is a NECESSITY.
I am praying that you will make it through this trying time ;)

We’re moving at the end of the month, and I have very serious concerns about my DVR. I know I’m going to miss shows and have to dig around for them online. Dangit.
