Sideblog:Scarlett, please don’t quit your day job

May 24, 2008

I usually like almost everything Scarlett Johansson does.

Notice I said almost.

Her new CD tracks?

NOT SO MUCH.

Gotta agree with you on this one. Although I did love her version of “Summertime” so much that I bought it on iTunes last week. What happened?

Hmmm. I am undecided at this point after 30seconds. I’ll have another listen and get back to you.

Holy Christ on a crutch… this is possibly the most horrible butchering of any song(s) I have ever heard. It may have something to do with the fact that I’m a HUGE Tom Waits fan and she has quite possibly destroyed everything he’s worked to create over the last 35 or so years. But I digest. I may just have to boycott any and every thing she has and will ever do. After all, good looks can only get you so far.

    Wow…
    Just wow…

Why do actors keep trying to make CDs? Is it suddenly 1985 all over again?

Really, it sounds like she recorded it in her bedroom over the original track. What’s with the echo-y sound? And her voice?

I guess it’s required for starlets to try their hand at singing. Why? I’m not sure. Maybe to give them a dose of humility?

  8. Erin Evans Taylor says:

Aaaaackkkkkk!!!!! I feel really bad for her, thinking she can sing and sound good and all the while people are gagging and dry heaving. She should fire the producer of this crap for misleading her into thinking she can sing. Or, maybe it’s meant to be a joke, and we all forgot to laugh!

You know how they say that Tom Waits isn’t for everyone? Well, I’m pretty sure this isn’t for anyone.

I don’t know. I kinda like it. And I’m also a huge Tom Waits fan so I really didn’t think that I would at all. Not going to run out and buy it or anything, but… it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe it’s just me.

haven’t these people learned from OTHER actors’ failed music crossover attempts? Heh. I haven’t heard her yet but skipped over the clip even though I could have just clicked on it and listened.

Nope, she should have stuck to her day job. I think she has talent in that area. Go with that…don’t ruin the resume with a mediocre attempt at singing.

  18. Amber says:

Eric and I listened to most of the album one day, partly because we were intrigued by the fact that it’s mostly Tom Waits songs. We weren’t immediately turned off by her voice, but the verdict (and the reason we only listened to most of the album) was that we’d both rather just listen to Tom Waits.
