I have gotten emails and comments wondering how the situation with Christopher and “Randy” turned out and wanted to give a small update. I talked with Christopher and he is ok with us talking to “Randy’s” parents.
We have called twice and left messages, but have not had a return phone call. We are going to leave one more message and then if they don’t get back to us, we are going to drop it. My kids go to a different school, and I this is not really a school issue. I am sure that the school he attends has noted things. They are hard to miss.
Also, I do not feel at all comfortable calling CPS like several people suggested. I know that not ignoring signs of abuse is important and I do think that while there is cause for concern in the supervision and parenting, I do not know that anything I have personally witnessed calls for that level of interference yet. Maybe that makes me the bad guy, but I just feel strongly that it would not be a good call. I’ll let you know if they call us back.

I think you’re playing it right.
You do what you think is best. You are, after all, the person who is actually involved with the situation. And your instincts are the ones you should trust. Well intentioned advice notwithstanding – you know best.
