The very last you will hear about it (I promise!)

January 30, 2008

After a couple of weeks and a few days of intense, emotional back-to-back viewings, I finished the very last episode of “The Gilmore Girls” tonight. Seven seasons viewed in a little over three weeks.  I don’t know whether to be impressed or disgusted with myself.  (Feeling both would probably be an adequate reaction.)

I have been totally obsessed with this show.  While it has been great, I confess that I DO have a bit of a tv hangover and I am really glad that I am finished and can now get back to my normal routines.  I tend to do this obsessive “I have to finish it” from time to time with books that are in serial format, but this a first for me with a television series.

I cannot believe how much I loved this show.

I sat watching the series finale at 3 am with tears running down my face.

Dude.

I am such a dorky stupidhead.

A very happy, weepy, satisfied dorky stupidhead.

Goodnight, Elizabeth Rory!

Goodnight, Jim Bob Lorelai!

Goodnight Waltons Mountain Stars Hollow!

It was a pleasure getting to know you.

Stumble it!

I LOVE Gilmore Girls! Was so sad to see it end last year.

If you get ABC Family on your cable system, they play the reruns several times a day if you ever need a fix :-)

  • Amber says:

Gilmore Girls was the kind of show I really could have gotten into if I had watched it from the beginning. But I didn’t so I have never really seen it.

Since getting married, I was a total dork and got addicted to two shows in reruns: Felicity (which I LOVED) and Dawson’s Creek, which I watched every day after I got married while I was looking for a job. Sad stuff, I tell ye. :-)

  • Rachel says:

It was a lovely show. I cried on the last episode. (Sigh)

  • Sharon says:

I’ve never seen it, but glad you enjoyed it!

Welcome to the Stars Hollow club! Gilmore was a MAJOR part of our family for years. I LOVE Luke. :) I’m a sucker for a scruffy beard and a baseball cap.
It’s the only show I can watch over and over and over again…that and Sex and the City (which I watched ALL seasons of on DVD from Hollywood video…it cost me a MINT…I should have just bought HBO!).
    Luke and Lorelai forever!

  • Who doesn’t love that show? Other than my husband.

As her bus drove off, I yelled, “GO FIND JESS!” A girl can dream.

  • Ok, so I fell in love with “Gilmore Girls” years ago! I taped it and watched episodes over and over! Lorelai reminded me sooooo much of you!!!! It made me feel like we were back together at college! (I did feel a bit like Suki!)
Yes, I’m still here! Yes, I read your blog! (now you have to watch your language! ha ha ha)

I loved the Gilmore Girl series! I’ve watched it from the beginning. I was annoyed when they switched writers but it got better. And I was satified how the story ended. I do miss them though. I still catch reruns here and there. All the characters were so loveable!

  • Angella says:

I have never watched a single episode of The Gilmore Girls.

    *Hangs head in shame*

  • You watched ALL SEVEN SEASONS IN THREE WEEKS?

Woman, you crazy. I’m only on Season One, Disc Four. I’m trying to draw this out, savoring each one, like a box of chatty chocolates with cute hair.

  • Christine says:

Dude, I totally have to watch this show.

  • Pink says:

i find myself wishing that emily and richard would grow up and that i lived in stars hollow every time i watch that show. i’ve cried and laughed with the best of them b/c of this show.

  • Amy says:

    Delurking here… : )

I loved that show too. I got the last season on DVD and haven’t watched it all the way through. Good show…

Although, the best tv show ever was ‘Everwood’…if you loved ‘Gilmore Girls’…you’ll LOVE Everwood!! Check it out! : )
    Amy~

  • I have never loved a television show more.

How I wish I could have married Luke….

  • holli says:

I’ve never watched even one episode, and that’s what the girls at LUSH call Faith and I when we come in the store – no clue why. I’ve only gotten obsessed about two shows like that – Twin Peaks and Six Feet Under. I have no idea what that says about me.

There has to be something else. I’m glad you’re feeling better!

  • I know, I am still on Season 7, about halfway through. It’s such good writing. I think it was marginalized a little, but just try to keep up with all those pop culture and literature and movie references!

Can’t wait to reach the end, too. Just to feel the completeness of it, I guess.

  • A friend and I used to watch it together every Tuesday for a while. It’s addicting. I also absolutely love Lauren Graham.

Still chuckling at the Walton’s, er, I mean, Gilmore goodbye.

  • Holly says:

Never seen Gilmore Girls, but I’m currently on the couch in tears over the finale of season two of the new Doctor Who. I’ve been obsessively watching the discs as fast as Netflix can get them to me. It’s cheesy, I know! But the Doctor is Scottish and gorgeous, and he’s been ripped apart from Rose forever. So I totally know how you feel, just in a British sci-fi sort of way.

  • Melain says:

Oh GREAT. Another show I now feel compelled to rent and watch. My Jonathan & I go on TV series kicks a few times a year. We just finished Heroes. AMAZING show. Maybe I’ll do G-Grls now.

    Jill (CDJ):
I have to confess, that I watched one of them tonight. I couldn’t help it. I was having a bit of withdrawl.

    Amber:
I got hooked because I saw the pilot. Seriously? Netflix them. It is one of the best shows on the planet. If you loved those two shows, I guarantee you will LOVE IT.

    Rachel:
I totally told myself “YOU WILL NOT CRY” and then was such a snotting dork at the end.

    WAH!

    Sharon:
It’s just a great show. I was totally happy to discover it finally.

    Retro Bakery says:
Oh, it just has the best feel to it.
I also LOVED THE KIMS. DUDE. LANE’S WEDDING??? BWAHHHHAAAAAA!!!!

    She Likes Purple:
My husband has similar feelings about the show.

I wasn’t a Jess fan. I so wanted to be. I’m afraid that I actually grew to really like Logan. (I didn’t want to. Trust me.)

    Erin Evans Taylor:
    LITTLE BUG!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!

This show would have been freaking PERFECT for us to watch in college.

Dude. We totally should have opened an inn! You would have kicked Sookies cooking tail. I totally related to Lorelai. We have many more things in common than I would like to admit! HEE!

Which reminds me…I want your recipe for those soy-dipped chicken drumsticks that were so freaking good. I cannot remember how to make them and have been drooling about them for a really long time.

    P.S
Great. Between you and my brother I’m never going to be able to swear again!! ;)

Wanna go to lunch sometime? I’d totally make the trip!

    justme:
They had no choice but to end it the way they did. There would have been mass rioting!

    Angella:
I hadn’t either until three weeks ago? Way behind am I! :)

    Melanie at Beanpaste:
I know. It’s sad. I tried so savor each one of them, but instead I went wild and in the immortal words of Mammy from GWTW: “Ate like a field hand and gobbled like a hog.”

    Sigh.

    Christine:

    Dude,you TOTALLY DO.

    Pink:
I LOVED Richard and Emily. They could be the biggest pains on the planet but the actors were GENUIS at playing emotionally stunted people that could let their humanity come through on occasion.

I’ve always loved Edward Herrman as an actor.

    Amy:
Thank you for delurking! I have heard about Everwood. I’ll have to check it out when I recover from my TV overload.

    Redneckmommy:
I KNOW. Oh my freak he was wonderful. I heart him and his flannel shirt. TOTALLY want to be Mrs. Backwards Baseball Cap.

    Holli:
I think you would LOVE Gilmore Girls. I can TOTALLY see you and Faith having that kind of bond. Plus, they are both GORGEOUS, so I can see why the girls at lush call you that! You should rent the pilot. I really think you’d like it.

    Occidental:
I HAD to finish it. I was the weirdest compulsion. I loved it.

    HairyShoeFairy:
This would have been a perfect show to watch with girlfriends. I had to do something to lighten the sappy patheticness of my “Ode to the Gilmore Girls” Hee.

    Holly:
Oh, I know ALL about Doctor Who. I’m a lover of ALL THINGS SCOTTISH, REMEMBER?

Malain: DO IT. I just KNOW you will love it.

  • heather says:

oh, I too loved that show! I still get twinges of sadness when I think that there are no more stories from Stars Hallow that will be told.

I don’t think I could do a marathon like that, I would be left wanting. I hate that kind of tension!

  • Jennifer says:

Oh, I cried too. You had to cry. My sister, who loved that show (and requests seasons of it on DVD for Christmas/birthday gifts) watched it from the beginning, but I picked up about 2 seasons in.

    Love that show.

  • Chris says:

I’m so glad that you loved it! It makes me happy that others find and devour the same shows that I loved dearly. Yep, I’m weird.

In my mind over the next 3-5 years,Rory becomes a real adult and is a well known news reporter before running back into Logan. They marry becoming an all powerful but nice media mogul couple. Luke and Loralei marry and have those twins. Yay! Happily ever after…
