Sing, sing, sing. Dance, dance, dance. Cough, cough, cough. Die, die, die.

January 18, 2008

I survived last night’s performance.

Barely.

So many people in our cast are sick. One of the little girls is in the hospital with RSV.  We’re all very worried about her.

It took me forever to get ready last night.  I didn’t even go up to cast meeting because me and my overtaxed lungs couldn’t face hiking up 6 flights of stairs to the Annex.  I just stayed in the dressing room applying bronzer all over my ghostly body.

When the cast came back down, the music director was with them.   She came over to my mirror.

“Loralee!  I have the funniest story for you.  One of the teachers at my kids school came and talked to me about you!”

“Oh? Have I done a show with her before?”

“NO! SHE READS YOUR BLOG.”

Hee!

That totally made my day.

I  took a ton of medication before hand, It created quite a case of “Medicine Head”(Non-drowsy my ass. I don’t care WHAT the label says,) and had to use every ounce of concentration to keep in time with the other girls. Especially during “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”.  It’s a bitch of a piece.  You have to do a lot of counting and the rhythms are a bit tricky.

Keeping still was the toughest part. When you need to sneeze and hack, it is very difficult to sit kneeling on a stage with your head down and.not. move.a.muscle. Luckily there were some moments where the orchestra was loud or a gong was striking where I could sneak in a “Sniff”, “Cough” or “Wheeze”.

I actually managed to sing which was amazing.

I hope I can pull it off again tonight.

I wish this post were funnier, wittier or more coherent, but I am going to take more Nyquil and crash before call time.

:)

Hey! I can’t breathe out of my nose, either! I think I’d rather sing and dance than get on another plane feeling like crap.

I hope you feel better soon.

One down, maybe your meds will kick in.
I don’t think you’re practicing safe computing because I caught the same virus.
Sinuses are being very mean to me.

That’s so funny about the teacher reading your blog.

It sucks that you’re still feeling like crap. You’re getting near the end, though. Then you can lie in bed all day and recover for real.

I hope you are feeling better. I remeber when I was sick and had to perform in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; I was the lead dancer. It sucked! Needless to say, I know how you feel. Nobody want to be on stage when they are sick.

That’s so cool that you perform! But not so cool about the RSV thing. A few years ago there was a meningitis breakout among the cast of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in our area. Very scary! Hopefully the girl gets better soon.

Hang in there. When you’re feeling low, and are just sure that you can’t go on, I want you channel “St. Elmo’s Fire.” Feel the fire.

    Remember: you’re a (wo)man in motion.
