And still she’s hacking up a lung…

December 2, 2007

I feel like total shit.

As you may have inferred from that sentence, I am still sick. Very sick. In fact, I can’t remember being this sick for this long without being hospitalized. It’s so frustrating. I was doing better and then a couple of days ago I took a total nosedive.

I’ve gone back to the ER clinic three times. I go there because I am really dehydrated and so I have to get IV’s of saline and they can’t really do that at my doctor’s office. They are all at a loss as to what it is that I have. It may be croup, it may be a form of influenza and they also suspect pertussis, which is the clinical, fancy-dancy name for Whooping Cough. Do you know what it feels like to be tested for Whooping Cough? It’s pretty much the nasal equivalent of an alien anal probe. Not that I’ve been anal probed…by aliens…or anything…Ehem.

I can’t be sick. I have obligations. SINGING obligations and I can barely talk. I hate being this dependent on other people, too. I have been coughing so hard that I vomit, so they put me on some heavy duty cough syrup. It makes coherent communication pretty tough. I’ve pretty much been sleeping for the last two days.

I feel a little better today.  I still can’t really talk on the phone, but I’ve been able to write a few emails and post this, but just writing it has wiped me out, so I’m going to go back to bed.

I just want to get better.

I want my mom.

Sob.

I hope you get well soon.
When I was teaching, I would come down with the ‘crud’ in the middle of every darned winter. Each year it got worse, till I developed pneumonia the last few years.
So for the last 10 years or so I’ve been getting a flu shot every fall (yes, it REALLY helps!)
And last year my dr. recommended a pneumonia shot (only need them every 5 years).
I hope you get well soon, drink lots of juice, and have some chicken soup!

    Oh! My! Gosh!

You WERE right! You did give me this sickness over the internet. I am feeling basically as terrible as I did a week and a half ago.

I’m thinking of going to the Dr. again myself. I have never been this sick for this long.

Get well. Maybe it will rub off on me.

oh you sound awful! My friend had something similar last winter- it ended up being pneumonia. She coughed so hard that she pulled muscles- she went in for a deep tissue massage and said that helped.

Hope it passes quickly and that all your boys stay healthy!

Yes, obligations are important, but not more than your health. Take a break and get some rest. Let the docs do their job and don’t worry so much. Eat a junk of ginger root, which is my grandmother’s cure-all. I hate that shit.

I had the whopping cough when I was 3, so thankfully there are many memories repressed there of coughing and poking and prodding.

    Keep us up to date.

I feel like there is a literal chance I am dying, and I was begging to go to the ER, but someone in this apartment was making me feel bad about it because of insurance reasons. I’m really upset. Anyway - I hope you feel better. I can’t imagine have crustitis.. er, pertussis. Just please be careful and don’t let it get worse. I hope both of us feel better soon!!.

I hope nobody gets anal probed but the crapheads.

    HUGS.

    Kyle:
Poopie is a pretty accurate description. Thanks for the well wishes, guy@

    glittersmama:
I have been sleeping and sleeping and sleeping. It seems to be the only thing that helps at all.

    Sharon:
I get a flu shot every year, too. I have asthma, so it is just a good idea. I’m really hoping that this is my one big sickness for the year and I will be done.

    Gretchen:
I want to shake this off so bad. Thanks for the encouragement!

    hairyshoefairy:

I remember when you were sick. The only saving grace for me is that I don’t have a fever.

    KatieBell:
It usually helps, but I have been throwing everything up, which sucks. So, I have been sticking to juice, sorbet and juice bars…Things that are a little more pleasant coming back up.

    Carrie:
Thank you so much. I am really frustrated by it all. No one can really do anything to help except give me drugs that don’t even really work that well.

    PlainJane:

Oh, you poor baby! It does sound exactly the same! I hope that both of our ick goes away SOON.

    applesonastick:

Yup, my back is KILLING me. I have thrown it out a few times from coughing so hard.

    Angella:
Awe! You gave me an awesome nickname! I love it. Thanks for the Canadian Wuv. (Send some maple sugar candy, too. I LOVE that shiz!)

    Bridge:
I know. As if coughing or puking isn’t bad enough on their own.

    Doug:
Thankfully, it isn’t Whooping cough. The tests were negative. Of course, this also means that I don’t know what is wrong.

    Tom:
Ug. It is so icky. I am just glad I don’t live in humidity. I’d be dying all the time with my poor lungs.

    Amber:
“Ishy” is a pretty damn good term. I think I may use it.

    Holli:
After your email I can tell you ONE PERSON I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANAL PROBED. I will write you back in the am when I’m not cross eyed. I LOVE YOU.

    Moosh:
I’ve decided that you must not need me as your personal blowup doll and so this is the way you’re killing me off. Sigh.

AND! I was upgraded to “Wife”. I’m not sure how I feel about it all. Hmmm…

    Kevin:
Your comment style kills me and is much appreciated. You’re snarky. I likes snarky.

    The Brother:
You. Freaking. Slay. ME. I would bwah ha ha if I could.

    Bee:
Sadly, no such luck. But it is always nice to commiserate with others. :)
