Can imagine how horrible it would be if you couldn’t cough?
My friend Brigitte (Bridgy) wrote a heartbreaking post about her brother-in-law and his family. Both of their children (Isis and Phoenix) are suffering from Rigid Spine Muscular Dystrophy. This is a fatal disease. It leaves both kids with no ability to cough. The smallest germ can mean weeks in the ICU.
“Although there is no cure, there are ways to prolong life and help these children that have this disease. One is a cough assist machine that helps them cough. With Rigid Spine both my niece and nephew have very weak muscles. So weak in fact that Isis still cannot stand up by himself without having help or using furniture. He is six years old now. Phoenix cannot even sit, or does she even try to sit/crawl/scoot. We think she may be worst than her brother. The cough assist machine will will be able to be used for both kids, and they will be able to be hooked up in the morning to strengthen their lungs. Hopefully with this they can better fight off illness, and we can have them with us as long as possible.”
There is a new machine that could help them cough, but like anything with the words “Medical” “New” and “Life Saving” it costs dearly and is not covered by insurance.
I usually do not do this, but if you are looking for a good deed or are able to help in any way, please consider helping these kids by donating here. Even the smallest donations will be very, very appreciated. If you can’t donate please consider going to the site and giving some emotional encouragement. Nick and Jasmine are wonderful parents to Isis and Phoenix, their only children. As you can imagine, they can use all the positive vibes, thoughts and comments anyone has to spare.
