Five Things

1. This is my kid’s last week in school. On Friday they participated in “Field Day” which also has “Crazy Hair Day” as part of the festivities. I could explain to you why this is, but then I may have to go into what weirdly turned into the most vicious, hellacious cat-fight of my PTA Presidency. DUDE, the “EMOTION” that was wrapped up in the decision about whether or not to allow kids to come to school for one day with Mohawks or pink hair was UNBELIEVABLE. It was the one and only time there was actual raising of voices between my principal and I. Normally we got along like peas and carrots but this topic was very touchy. There was one particular altercation in the hallway where he looked like he was going to turn purple and explode and the remaining people from my council looked frightened I would bitchslap and imprison them for forced labor. So, rather than subject you to all of that I’ll end by saying that we compromised. Crazy Hair day happens on Field Day now.

James had a blue Mohawk and Christopher had spiky, orange hair. James took third in something to do with balloons and Christopher and his class “Hardly won ANYTHING!”

He wasn’t very happy. You can tell. James spent the day channeling “Lenny” from “Laverne & Shirley”. You can tell that, too.

2. I love getting things in the mail. The big surprise this week is from “Tom” a reader from Tennessee. Tom (Who calls me “My dear LLC” CUTE.)was looking for a home for some of his beloved LP’S. He rambled off some of the titles and as my friend, Brian, has a record player I said “Sure!”. lps.jpgThere are some awesome selections in the pack but I am the most excited for this top selection: The original cast recording of “You’re a Good man, Charlie Brown”. I love this show. I saw it in High School when a friend was playing, Snoopy and I fell in love with it. I’ve always loved Charlie Brown. I relate to Linus and his blankie. In fact, I think I should start a support group called “Linus’s Blankie” for security addictions. Think of the introductions! “Hi, I’m Loralee and this is my blanket, a 44 oz. Diet Coke.”

3. Jonathan and I totally mucked out our kids rooms and playroom. We scrubbed, dusted, vacuumed and threw aways loads of things. All their clothing is gone through and all items that are too small, dirty, holy or pink from laundry mishaps have been removed. It was a ton of work, but is so worth it. Now we just have to do the other 900 projects vying for our time.

4. I went to see my brother, Rhett, this weekend. Rhett is my eldest, beloved brother. In fact, he’s known on this blog as “The Brother” and often makes very wise, hysterical and often taunting remarks in the comments section. He says I suffer from a rampant case of “TMI” (Too Much Information) but he loves me anyway.

I became an aunt to Rhett’s oldest son, Jeff, when I was 5-years-old. WOW. So, this means that at this point I have a couple of great-neices and nephew’s under my belt. There is Jayden (2 yrs), Fiona (6 months), Carter (2 months) and one more girly on the way. This weekend, I got to meet my great-nephew, Carter because Jeff and his family came up from California to visit.

My camera setting was off so these pics are fuzzy, but you can still see that I have one handsome nephew (Who is freaking tough as well. Member of the LAPD, thank you very much. I love cops.) and his baby boy is the cutest.

Jon fit right in with my other great-nephew, Jayden. Jon is very cute with little kids. Maybe it is because he is such a huge guy, I don’t know, but seeing him with tiny people is endearing. (No sarcastic comments about him hanging out at Little People conferences, please. It isn’t the same thing. Grin.)

Rhett makes a very adequate Grandpa.

I also love teasing my brother mightily about this title and his age. I don’t feel guilty about this either. This is a guy who has totally mocked me for the last eight years about putting my son in a movement class for 2-year-olds. He says I scarred James for life by forcing him to participate in “Modern Dance”. He may be right, I have no idea. Sigh.

Babies Rule.

5. Last, but CERTAINLY not least, I bought a new shirt today. $17.00. Not bad.new-shirt.jpg

Now I just have to finish painting my damn bathroom so that I can put the stack of paint cans away.

Sigh.
