I just finished watching “Forrest Gump” for the second time in the same number of days. It’s currently showing on TNT and since I have been having hot and heavy makeout sessions with a box of tissues and my NyQuil capsules, I decided that I should pass the time by watching a really long movie.
This fit the bill.
I haven’t seen it in forever and I forgot just how much I love that little film.
I know, I know. Some people hate it, but I am not one of them.
My favorite part of the whole film has got to be the college football scene where he plows into the marching band and keeps running down the tunnel. HA! Even funnier is the “Stop Forrest” flag that they unroll in the next scene to get him to stop.
Besides being one of the funniest parts of the film, I relate to this segment. I was such a dork in the music department. I had to work twice as hard as everyone to understand my course work. I seriously thought one day someone was going to say “She has got to be the stupidest sonofabitch alive, but she sure can sing!”
I was on a full-ride scholarship because I had great vocal folds but I was the worst musician. I remember finally figuring out how to count and comprehending that and eighth note and and eighth note equal a quarter note JUNIOR YEAR. HELLO! Yah. I’m super “Special”. I’ll be going to KMART later if anyone wants to join me.
I also love the soundtrack. There are two. The compilation of various songs is awesome, but I am so in LOVE with the orchestral score. In case you didn’t know, Orchestral Soundtracks are my “Thing”. I heart them. They are my very favorite type of music. Go ahead and mock me, I care not. You get used to it when you have the taste in things that I do. (Air Supply, anyone?)
This score has everything a great soundtrack should have-It can make you almost cry and totally rev you up. Or, in my case, make me jump up and down on my bed during the above “Football Scene” with a tissue shoved up one nostril. (I’ve been sneezing so much I gave myself a nose bleed.)
Anyhoo-I am still in pretty bad sick suck, but I wanted to pop in and say something so you didn’t think I had died. I wish I had more interesting things to blog about besides watching movies, but it is what it is. I’ll try and answer emails and swing by more blogs when I’m feeling better.
Later!

I suppose a more interesting post would have been how I got ticketed for going 25 miles over the speed limit in my new car. I cannot believe I was going so fast. I have never been ticketed for anything but 10 miles over.
I suppose that is what happens when you are used to driving a piece of hud car that starts to cough and shake like 3/4th of “The Golden Girls” cast when it gets above 15 mph.
I am freaking out of my mind. I really can’t afford this right now and it just SUCKS.
P.S. Yes. I watch “The Golden Girls”. I ALSO watch “Matlock“. Are any of you really surprised????

My favorite movie soundtrack is the one from Remember the Titans. I. Freaking. Love. It.
Oddly enough, I’ve never seen the movie and so I haven’t heard the soundtrack. Now I’m curious.
LOVE the soundtrack to “Rudy”, though.
I admit to loving “The Golden Girls” too. Oh, and “Rudy” makes me cry…much to the horror of my husband.
I found the perfect necklace for you: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5666989. Seriously.
I love Forrest Gump. I watched it last time I was home with my never-ending sinus infection.
Oh my goodness I love score soundtracks. I really like Thomas Newman. He did American Beauty, White Oleander, Dead Poets Society, etc… Just Awesome. I never thought about getting the one from Forrest Gump though. I should do that. I also don’t even think I have to mention that I never feel like the brightest person in the room. So I would love to go to KMART with you. We can where matching sweatshirts!
Ugg! Not a ticket! They should have given you a warning. Sorry to hear about that. :(
Darn. That other link doesn’t work. Here I made it an HTML link.
Perfect Necklace for Loralee
Um…I’m confused… You equated Air Supply with film music? Exactly how much NyQuil have you been guzzling?!! A lot of the greatest classical music of the last 100+ years has been written for film. Just because you like Air Supply doesn’t mean all of your musical choices are bad…Air Supply and Jerry Goldsmith (the composer of RUDY for those of you playing along at home) in the same category…UGH!!! (I can’t remember Silvestri’s score for FORREST GUMP because I am one of the few who think it was a hugely overrated film [a good film, but overrated], but I do like his work in general.)
Also, you are not a bad musician. You struggle with the mechanics of music, true, but that’s the most rudimentary part of music. That’s like saying you can’t write simply because you make questionable spelling and grammatical choices. (Yes, I do notice.) All you have to do is look at all of your performances, right down to this past weekend. Despite being ill and being hopped up on more drugs that all of Guns-n-Roses combined, you still were able to interpret the mechanics Handel wrote down and perform the music Handel composed. The intangible elements (phrasing, etc.) are where the real music is, and, baby, you’ve got those in spades!
Ah…I love ‘Forest Gump’ too! My favorite scene is when he finds out about his son… and tries to ask if the child is, well, like him. Then the girl says that he is very smart. The emotions playing across Tom Hanks face are priceless.
Each time I see that movie, I notice something new.
Movie scores are great. My husband did most of his CPA study hours to several different movie scores. And now I want to watch Forrest Gump! Get well soon Loralee!
I have the soundtrack to “Remember the Titans”. Just let me know when you want to listen and I will get it to you. I love it.
If you have not done so, check out the website that Sparkliesunshine gave you. It is so cool!
Get better soon my friend!
Air Supply? Yup and I’ll bring the Journey. Love Steve Perry’s voice–and yes, soundtracks are cool.
Though I do have to say I’ve never seen Forest Gump. I know, it’s a gasp and I must be the last American alive not to have seen it. I saw a couple minutes on t.v. one time and turned it off–
So did you figure out the two-quarters-make-a-half thing out too? :)
loralee, it’s getting stranger than strange when stuff like that happens to you and me. i totally watched forrest gump the other night. endured the commercials b/c i couldn’t find my dvd of the movie. i have the soundtrack too. love creedence clearwater.
Ooh! Ooh! Me too!
Best song from an original motion picture score: Binary Sunset, Star Wars by John Williams. I swear, I am in another world entirely when the whining pipes merge with the blustering strings, then melt again in the same stretch of time.
Most emotional: The Bridge of Khazad Dum by Howard Shore (you know – the part where everyone collapses on the ground outside Moria after Gandalf dies). That one never fails to make me, umm… get something caught in my eye.
The most “Gawd! I remember that scene, exactly!”: Theme (Full Instrumental), Last of the Mohicans by James Horner. How anyone can imagine anything other than three Mohicans leaping waterfalls and skittering through pine-obscured game trails when this tune comes on, I don’t know.
Greatest solo instrumental performance in a movie soundtrack: Silk Road, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon performed by Yo Yo Ma. The man’s a genius – no mas to say (except that this is probably my favorite movie soundtrack when judged as a whole).
Most ear-shatteringly cool: Theme, The Last Samurai by Hans Zimmer. Move over THX splash screen – Uncle Hans has invented a new way to make me love to make my ears bleed!
Best score in a cartoon: Spirited Away. Hands down the best score, and among the best cartoons ever made, overall.
Most invigorating: Imperial March, Star Wars (again) by John Williams. It’s also sometimes the only way to motivate me to go to the gym. Dum dum diddledy-um-tum da diddledy iddledy!
BTW, what’s up with the $5 blowjobs? Your rates go up? Har har.
I have decided that I’m like mini Lo. Minus the love of Air Supply. I think it’s due to the programming you gave me when I was younger. I mean, how many people read Shakespeare’s plays to kids as bedtime stories?
One of these days I’m going to make a list of all the things we have in common. It’ll be pretty scary, I’m sure.
I know you’re sick but I’m calling you anyway. You have to hear the latest misadventures of Fiona at the RAF Lakenheath Emergencey Room.
Shannon-See? There are others out there!
Angela-OMG I WANT THAT NECKLACE!!!!!
Brian- Awe. You don’t think I suck. That is so sweet of you.
Sharon and Jill-I forgot how much I really love this flick. It rocks.
ME-I have to snag it and take a listen. I probably should just watch the film, too.
Scribbit-Yes, I did finally figure it out, though it was a long, laborious process. Wink.
Pink Drama-It’s good to know there were more people than me that tolerated the commercials to see it. Good thing I have DVR.
Alex-HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA on the last bit. Seriously, that made me pee. LOVE your list. It inspired me to write a whole post. I’d love to hear your take on it. I hope the score for “The Golden Compass” is acceptable when it comes out. I am very excited for that film.
Beekie-FIONA WAS IN THE ER? WHAT THE HELL??????? I was in a coma when you called.
Dear Lo,
I’m sorry I don’t comment any more. It’s too hard to type with one hande since I have to hold my internet connection/cable into my computer with my other hand. I also watched Forrest Gump recently and was reminded of how much I like it. Also, I kind of like watching Golden Girls when I’m sick and just want to sit on the couch and ignore my kiddos. If I had to pick a favorite soundtrack it would probably be Mary Poppins, though the soundtrack to Magnolia is absolutely amazing–of course so is the movie–it was done before Tom Cruise was known to be so bizzare.
I love the movie and the soundtrack too…both discs of it. I am going to have to find time to watch this movie again. It has been so long since I have seen it.
