I’ve mentioned that this month’s “Self-Portrait Challenge” is “ME AS…”
Here is my weekly photo:
This is my friend, Michelle.
I think she is just about the best mom I’ve ever seen in action. This day and photo really capture Chelle at her best (In my opinion). A healthy, vibrant, confidant woman, who did a damn fine job helping to create the amazing bundle asleep on her back. She is a mom who is also very much her own person.
As for the photo: Last August (After perhaps the second worst week of my life) I tagged along with Michelle to her family camping trip in Montana.
It was amazing. The views, the company, all of it. The bear precautions were NOT awesome, but I won’t dwell.
On this particular day, we went hiking in West Glacier National Park. Michelle (Who is freakishly strong due to coming from sturdy pioneer stock)carried her ADORABLE little girl, Grace, in a back pack all the FREAKING WAY up a mountain.
I only made it about half way up the mountain, saw some goats, sang a couple of verses of “High on a hill was a lonely goat herd”, and I was KAPUT.
She trudged up the scenic view with her kids…and…her siblings, their kids, her SIXTY YEAR OLD PARENTS…uh…yah…basically everyone but freakishly weak and out of shape ME made the full trek up the mountain.
Chelle never misses an opportunity to educate her little ones. That day was no different. She pointed out and discussed different animals, plants and cloud formations and managed to look beautiful, composed and amazing doing it. She also managed to not wake up sleeping beauty and smile for the annoying camera-crazy friend.
She manages to be pulled together, organized, thoughtful, balanced, responsible, fun and intriguing without alienating people. This is a monumental feat.
Sometimes my brilliant friend gets burned out by all the juggling, but it is rare. When it does happen, she picks herself up and trys something else till it works. If THAT doesn’t work, she calls me and we go and buy a plethora of assorted and pleasing socks. :)
I adore her.
