After sleeping over at Steph’s I headed to Cedar Hills (near Alpine) to have “food day” with my beloved brothers, Rhett and Brad. There is a reason why I named my two children after these two…they are awesome. Rhett and I love to cook and get together frequently to cook a complicated and extensive menu. It’s usually something we haven’t ever done but want to. We’ve had Greek Day, Mediterainean Day, Thai Day, BBQ Day and this time we wanted to try our hand at making fresh pasta as neither one had ever done so. Rhett bought a pasta machine (see photo) and we had SO MUCH FUN. Here’s our menu:
Osso Bucco (braised veal shanks in a tomato/basil stew)
Butternut Squash Ravioli with Brown Butter Sage Sauce
Pasta Figoli Soup
Garlic Rosemary Bread
Koolaid (It worked really well oddly enough!!!)
Everything turned out so yummy! We went to this awesome butcher in SLC to get veal shanks and it was amazing. I could have stayed in there looking at all of the unusal cuts of meat forever. The filling of the Ravioli was so good I wanted to just sit there and eat it ALL and the soup was divine (Brad and his wife Candy made that one). I spent the night and went to church with the fam (no, the building wasn’t hit by lightning!) My brother is in the Bishopric and did a fabulous job conducting. I ended up staying an extra night (we had a great dinner with Susan’s niece and nephew…and we had great steaks…yum!). I made it home Monday night and hung out with my friend, Mary Ellen. I burned her a bunch of CD’s and she ended staying until 3 am! It was a fun, full day.
